1st Grade, Rome to Reformation Week 8: Roman Soldier, Skin, Germanic tribes

BIBLE

We revised the Roman Road verses and also the NT books.
Then we went on the memorize Romans 12:1 this week.
Lil Sis did a revision on her verses.

Also we read on the account of John the Baptist and also Jesus as a boy.

HISTORY

We learnt about the Roman Soldiers and I used this worksheet to go further on the topic.
We also talked about death of Herod and the migration of the Germanic Tribes

We read the Bronze Bow.

LANGUAGE
The older kids continued on Rod and Staff English.

For Lil Sis, we read more phonic books from here

And we started the Bible Reader!!

This is the first child I actually had to go through the word list BEFORE reading the reader. And I found MFW really prepared her well to this stage. My first two children were reading well at this point, whereby my third is the only one who went through MFW K and 1st and only learning the words they taught. It is exciting to see that this curriculum really works even for a "normal pace"learner like her! =)

I wished I took a video of her reading the first page of the bible reader. She was SOOO proud of herself. =)

We did the first Bible Notebook page. She wanted to do the "night" page this way. =)

The older two started Lesson 5 åº·è»’一下 for Mandarin Chinese and Lil Sis learnt more bopomofo.

We learnt two more Latin words "pater patris" and "mater matris" this week.

We did Spelling Power.

MATH
Lil Sis continued to do worksheets on addition.

SCIENCE
We learnt about the skin this week and the layers of it.

The kids enjoyed learning about how amazing our skin is! I hurt my toe this week and there was a big bruise. I took the chance to show them that it is the skin that keeps the blood in (that's why the bruise). How timely. =)

ART
We did not do any special art project this week.

Online Resources: Sesame Street Games

I love the Sesame Street Games ...I think they are the best for preschoolers. They teach important concepts, at the same time, making computer skills real easy. For eg, there is no "click and drag"...that's hard for them...there's "click" "move" "click". There are some games Ian really likes...(click on photo for the games) That's the Wheels on the Bus song (you press the keys foe interactive movements) Patterns. Seasons. Fun for the kids. Walking the dogs...numbers. This is alltime favorite. First you make a pitcher of lemonade. Then depending on how many monsters come, you click however many cups. I love it!

Science 2015/2016: Human Body Recap

We really had fun learning about the Human Body this year. I thought it would be meaningful to consolidate our learning. We enjoyed the Body Book more than I thought we would. I did do most of the cutting though. We also enjoyed the different videos we watched and the experiments. I think this is the most successful science year yet.
