Exploration to 1850 WEEK 4: Mayflower Pilgrims

Bible This week we did Bible memory James 1:1-11. It was great to revise nearly every lunch and after dinner. That is our family bible time. This is the hymn we enjoyed these two weeks. History We learnt about the Mayflower, pilgrims, and Miles Standish. The older kids did notebook pages on the pilgrims and we talked about the Mayflower compact. Some books we read (they have good realistic photos): We continued on this book. We finished "Squanto". This book is interesting (I forgot which week it was for). It helped the students (and teacher) learn about the kings and queens of England. It was a real mess and I had to research a while to understand which "Mary" was that "Mary", etc. Language We continued with Spelling and Big Bro had his first English test for Rod and Staff. We continued with Mandarin Chinese. Science We did Lesson 11 on ferns. Our area is quite sunny

Exploration to 1850 WEEK 3: Jamestown

Bible We began the memorization of James! This week we did James 1:1-8. We did good! Even Baby Sis was able to memorize some words! I tried this for one of the verses just for fun. The kids enjoyed it. This is the hymn we enjoyed these two weeks. We REALLY enjoyed this rendition. The kids remarked that the people are so joyful. History We learnt about King James, Jamestown, and the first pioneers. These were some of the books in the book basket. I saw Big Sis reading it. The older kids did notebook pages on King James and Jamestown. I found some images of the 1611 KJV version of 1 Cor 13 online and gave them as a page. Lil Sis enjoyed making t

History We learnt about the Dutch Revolt, Spanish exploration of South America, and Mary, Queen of Scots For my middle-schooler, he had to do more notebook pages (and more Math), while others did oral narrations. He also read more about Sir Walter Raleigh. Got this globe at the h omeschool conference . Thank you, Alpha Omega! And we used it as we read about history. Big Sis and Lil Sis really enjoyed "American Pioneers and Patriots". We also read the North American Indians. We made shortbread and had tea! This recipe, though extremely vague for a recipe, is delicious! We read this interesting story while talking about Netherlands. Language We started with Rod and Staff English this week. We are using English 2,4,6. This is Lil Sis do
