Bible This week we finished memorizing James Chapter 4 History We learnt about the California Gold Rush We continued to read Bound for Oregon. This is a good read-aloud book. Big Sis continued reading her books of the "Little House Series" and it's such a great complement to our study too. She read "By the banks of Plum Creek", and "By the Shores of Silver Lake", and "Long Winter" Language We continued with Spelling power and Rod and Staff. Big Bro made it to 1000 words for this year and since I have decided he will not do Spelling after this year, it was a celebration. He had done well in his spelling (at Level K now), and I think Spelling Power is a real good program! We started learning to type with this free online course  (Typing Club). I REALLY like it!! We were very blessed to have the resources to drive 8+ hours to Ohio for the Teach Them Diligently Convention. It was such a wonderful time for us. The kids had a CRAZY time at the waterpark. Their first time!! I was amazed at the courage of our older ones to go on the rides. My hubby and I were so filled up by the speakers. The sessions were really encouraging. We especially gained a lot from Todd Wilson and Karen DeBeus . We were also quite excited about the museum of the Bible , coming to D.C in July 2017. I had the chance to enjoy some time with moms at the Evening of Real Refreshment. Mennonites worshiping with Pentecostals? Why not? =) It was an interesting experience. I appreciate the work put in by the team. I feel that TTD was VERY well organized and they had a ton of great speakers. I only wished the times for meals were not that rushed. =) Thank God for a mom on facebook to remind me the use of crockpot liners. OH MY!!! It saved our sanity...

V-Vegetable Unit is great for us for our kids really need some "push" in eating vegetables! (though I recently found the magic Spinach...it's versatile and doesn't have a strong taste, so I can put in many dishes and the kids will gladly eat it). Here is our plan: *Teach about the food pyramid, emphasizing on Vegetables (they are GREAT in grains, fruits and dairy). We don't have that many activities for X-FoX but we have lots of books so I intend to read a book every day. Here are our activities *Bible Memory Challenge. We have been WAITING for this unit!! Just because "Frog and Toad" books are our very very favorites. They are the books that "taught" my son to read and spell. SERIOUSLY. I'll have to write a post JUST on these two FUNNY amphibians. Anyhows, because of that I've decided to put up THEIR pictures instead of the real frogs (they look so much cuter anyways). Monday will be last day for Zebra. We'll do reading and Math (and if the weather is good again, we'll do an outdoor day too) Anyhows, here're what we did for Z-Zebra *Zebra craft with cut out stripes (good practice for Ian) * Roll a Zebra * Tangram of a horse (preschooler) *Watched an interesting slideshow/video of zebras here (the first 5 mins) *Made PB/J sandwich striped style. *Watch Bad Case of Stripes on storylineonline again. (love this reading!!) *Ian read "Put me in the zoo" ALL BY HIMSELF. So proud of him *Did a number of worksheets. I like the color by numbers one cos it combined subtraction in it. Other things. We did a lot of Math stuff too, like measuring. It was fun. The Math mat turned out to be too under-challenging for him, cos he found the pattern too fast.

We'll be on vacation!! When others were snowed in, having their winter breaks and all the other Jewish holidays, we had school throughout. Now it's our turn to take a break.   It'll be wonderful to see grannies again and when we come back, we'll be going on to P-Penguin Unit. I wish we'll have a chance to visit the zoo in our vacation, so we can see some elephants, horses, goats and of course, PENGUINS. =)     March of the Penguins would have been such a great movie for the unit...but I don't think my sentimental boy will take it. (I was bawling myself) Too much for his heart. Too long anyway. For this unit, we found TONS of WONDERFUL worksheets on this site . In fact, the Learning Page is seriously a site I would go back to again. Great resources and wonderful graphics. Horses are just amazingly beautiful animals! I don't get to see one alot, but these pictures make me stand in awe.   Anyhows, we don't have a WHOLE lot to the unit, but to learn the principles "to obey right away" is sometimes a difficult task for our kids...something we can continue to encourage them in this unit   Activities:  *Videos on horses   *Make haystacks as snacks  *Comparison between horses and cars  *Treasure hunt by obeying instructions  *Classification/organization of different types of animals *some nice worksheets for Horse - wordsearch , coloring *Toilet roll craft    IF we find it ok, we MIGHT watch Flicka together. I like the theme for this week, but felt that not enough is done to reinforce the important idea that "Jesus died for my sins". Here're the activities we'll do: *Go through the gospel using the Wordless Book again. Our fav for this unit were the books and the lunch! I don't think I had a unit that I loved every book! The kids' favorite must have been Tickly Octopus and It's a good thing you're not an octopus. They really are great reads! For the lunch , here're the ingredients: Octopus: hot dog, sunflower seeds Starfish: cheese sandwich, cheerios Crab: Persimmon, raisins Seaweed, goldfish Other things we did: *Mural, using hands and fist for octopus *Acting out Rainbow Fish *Some nice worksheets *Retelling stories And we found a great video for Swimmy. Every unit excites me in different ways (granted.  There are some units, that I just do. Not that much stuff). Some units, I LOVE the fact there are great crafts or fun activities. Others (like the last) I love the hands on. This unit, I am stretched in my spiritual learning. Because I never cared about the dinosaur. I AM A GAL! I never cared when they lived, if they still lived, and how that contradicts (or not) with the bible. I shrug it off with "God knows and I don't" But here comes a time when I'm confronted with it and I got to teach it to my kids and I better learn it. And boy, learn it I did and how grateful I am! Just by reading this AMAZING article by Ken Ham who made the whole dinosaur thing SOOO easy to understand, my faith grew a notch! Can you believe it! My God is awesome! His Word is true! This is a week I'm glad we have 6 days for the unit! It's a really fun unit with lots of hands on and Science stuff. We're doing less worksheets for this unit.
