 This week we learnt about the seizure of Fort Ticonderoga, Battle of Bunker (Breed's) Hill, 2nd Continental Congress, Attack on Quebec, Battle of Moore's Creek Bridge, and Thomas Paine. We compared the 2 continental congress. We watched some videos on the battles. For Science we learnt about stems and did an celery stem experiment Start 30 mins 50 mins 1h 30 mins Overnight 9th GRADE Big Sis continued to learn about the Eastern Europe. 11th GRADE Big Bro took another SAT prep test. I learnt that I can actually tell him to zoom in practice on the topics he needs more help with by looking at his test prep (in Khan). He has about 5 months to go and we will do a test prep a month.

  HISTORY This week we did a little of Homeschool in the Woods( American Revolution ) just to start off. We will use this curriculum in Week 13 on. Timeline Lapbook component We also finished up Georgia as the last 13 colonies. And we listened to a few SOTW chapters. We also continued to read Amos Fortune. Poor Baby Sis was sick this week so she had a couple days just "listening in". Foreign Language We are doing some review games this and next week. BOTANY This was a review crossword Baby Sis did last week. We did a flower dissection this week. I prepared this for the girls. This was the notebook page. For Earth Science, Lil Sis tried a humidity experiment that didn't quite work. 9TH GRADE Big Sis learnt about the British Isles She made DELICIOUS lemon tea cookies and chocolate pudding pie, and I made Scottish shortbread, so we had tea. =) 11th GRADE Big Bro did another SAT full test and he improved by a fair bit!

  This was the windmill Lil Sis didn't finish last week for New Netherlands. I started a new notebook page for the girls. To put in the kings in charge during the time of each colony. They continued to do their colony pages. This is how I teach the history. Sometimes I read straight out of the books. Most of the time I summarize and I will use a powerpoint presentation with pictures for them. It makes more sense. We learnt about King Charles I, Oliver Cromwell, Charles II, and the fire in London this week. Also we learnt about the Carolinas and Maryland colonies. Science We had our 2nd co-op. These were the notebook pages Baby Sis did for last week. When we went for a walk, we found a vascular plant. And Lil Sis made a crystal model for her Earth Science class (that she is independently doing) Bible For bible, I am using the materials from Bible Study Fellowship . Big Bro uses the adult, Big Sis and Lil Sis use the oldest kid and Baby Sis the younger kid. They are pretty good mater...

 This is how we did SAT prep for the firstborn. He went through the whole book. But the information was really hard to stick! So he did the first practice test. Then we are going through the test together a few questions at a time. Next he will be using Khan Academy t o practice. He will do the diagnostic tests (there are 8) on the site and do 15 mins practice everyday. That will be about 10 questions. Maybe the next half year he will increase to 20-30 mins? He will review the strategies from the Princeton book regularly. Every two months he will do a full length practice test and go through the questions. He has a year and hopefully this will give him enough practice.
