School plan 2021-2022

For school year 2021 - 2022 we will have a 4th grader, 7th grader, 9th grader, and 11th grader. And we will have a three year old tagging along on the side. 4th Grade and 7th Grade History We will be following Exploration to 1850 materials. The spine this year will be: Story of the World vol 3 Exploring American History And Building a City on the Hill Some other books for read-a-loud or materials will be However, we will not follow the state report, James study, art, and music. Bible We will attempt to follow bible study from Bible Study Fellowship I don't know how it will work but I think it might be helpful. Science We will do Botany and Zoology, using the materials suggested, possibly with two other new homeschoolers as a mini co-op. =) Lil Sis will also do some other science as part of her 7th grade science. However, instead of General Science, or Science in the Atomic Age (Wile), she will listen in to Botany/Zoology (without doing the assignments/projects), while adding Earth...

Creation to the Greeks 2019-2020

Much that I really wanted to keep up with the blog for the year, it did not work out. With my dad passing in October, and the COVID quarantine in 2020, I was thankful we finished school! The blog was not able to record down many good stuff we did this year. I actually was very proud of how we did, and how much effort I (and the girls) put in this year! This was the plan I did in the beginning of the year. Some of the memories and things I enjoyed were... 1. A different way to teach history/bible This year I decided I would prepare the teaching more. Last time we did CtG, we read through Streams, the encyclopedia, etc, like all good Charlotte Masoners would with living books. The kids did not understand much and retained almost nothing. Maybe I wasn't doing it right, and maybe they were rather young then. This year I used presentation to give them some visual aids as I taught or read. This was an example. We watched short videos quite often. The Usborne Encyclopedia q...

Highschool 9th Gr Week 2

This week Big Bro continued studies on Genesis and Job in OT challenge, and also Exploring World History. He also started the Unwrapping the Pharoahs book and learnt a little on Ancient Egypt. We discussed the timeline and he will probably do it online. For Biology, we started on the microscope and it was really fun! We did the cheek cells experiment. This is the microscope we got, and we got these blank slides , coverslips , and stain . Overall, I think we saved on the cost and it works well enough. Big Bro did his first test on VHSG  and he got 100%! It boosted his confidence thoroughly. For week 2, he spent about 4-5 hour average everyday on his work and I think he is getting a good hang of it. I work with him on Biology and sometimes Algebra.

Highschool 9th Gr Weeks 0-1

Why is it Week 0-1? Well, I had some issues with the Notgrass History books, so they did not come in time. I improvised, moved the schedule somewhat, and came up with Week 0. =) The first two weeks were gentle start to 9th grade and I am REALLY grateful for the wisdom of the MFW creators for the wisdom of starting a new highschooler a week ahead. I was able to sit with him without distractions to go through the schedule and work flow. By the 2nd week, he was pretty much on his own. I only worked with him for Math and Biology because he needed more help. We meet on Friday to go through his work. Daddy helped us redo the schedule so that we can add in the things we wanted. We made some changes to the New Answers Book. Instead of reading, he searches articles or videso on the website . This is because the books' chapters were really long and it was hard for him to follow. Since he has ample reading to do, I decided that for him to understand the apologetics of the faith is...
