School plan 2021-2022

For school year 2021 - 2022 we will have a 4th grader, 7th grader, 9th grader, and 11th grader. And we will have a three year old tagging along on the side.

4th Grade and 7th Grade

History
We will be following Exploration to 1850 materials.
The spine this year will be:
Story of the World vol 3
Exploring American History

And Building a City on the Hill

Some other books for read-a-loud or materials will be
However, we will not follow the state report, James study, art, and music.

Bible
We will attempt to follow bible study from Bible Study Fellowship
I don't know how it will work but I think it might be helpful.

Science
We will do Botany and Zoology, using the materials suggested, possibly with two other new homeschoolers as a mini co-op. =)

Lil Sis will also do some other science as part of her 7th grade science. However, instead of General Science, or Science in the Atomic Age (Wile), she will listen in to Botany/Zoology (without doing the assignments/projects), while adding Earth Science, and Physics/Chem on the side. I am streamlining the two courses for her so that she does them in a year.

My goal for her in those courses are to expose to different areas of science, and also to work independently, to get ready for the High School science.

Foreign Language
I might be attempting to work out some curriculum from this site. They have excellent materials! I will be making worksheets/games etc for them.

Math
Baby Sis will continue with Singapore Math.
And Lil Sis has already started on PreAlgebra for Chalkdust Math

English
They will continue to Rod and Staff English

And we will continue to incorporate the IEW writing teaching in history/science.

Spelling
Both girls will continue to Spelling Power.

9th Grade
Big Sis will be in high school!!

We are making a BIG BIG move!!...away from My Father's World. A little sad for me, but after much thinking it's a good choice, I believe.

She will be doing 1 credit Geography and Cultures, from here

The curriculum looks absolutely delightful. I think she will enjoy it tremendously!

Other than that, she will be reading quite a lot of books from this unit, plus some writing (with IEW principles), and also some essay guides from MFW's Ancient History and Literature. That will be her 1 credit unit of English.

The 1 credit Bible will be from following BSF study, as well a speed read through the OT, making summary statements for every chapter.

Also, she will be doing 1 credit Chemistry
0.5 credit Logic (she might start this in the summer)

1 credit Foreign Language (Mandarin), using Integrated Chinese vol 2

1 credit Geometry
0.5 credit music (piano and guitar)
0.5 credit Physical Ed (walking everyday! She is very disciplined in this)

In total she will be taking 7.5 credits next year.

11th Grade

1 credit History
Big Bro will be using Guesthollow American History Year 1

1 credit English
He will be reading many books from the GH curriculum (doing some writing assignments), and also doing intensive SAT prep from Khan.

0.5 credit Government
Besides some of the reading from GH, we will supplement this from iCivics and Crash Course

1 credit Algebra II
He had enjoyed YayMath! when using AllinOneHighSchool Geometry, so we will use the curriculum for Algebra II

0.5 credit Logic
I wish he had done this in 9th grade. But he will do this this year.
1 credit Physics
After much contemplation, we have decided upon him doing a Conceptual Physics course. He will be using this book as a spine

And these videos (really interesting!) as supplementary teaching. Also Guesthollow has a Conceptual Physics course. I'm not using it, but their booklist is quite an inspiration. Big Bro might read some of them.

0.5 credit Fine Arts
He does guitar and guitar videos on his own

0.5 credit Physical Ed
We need to figure this out!

1 credit Bible
He will follow the BSF study and some books on Christian Worldview which I will find for him.

1 credit Foreign Language
He chose Latin! We will be using this book (at the recommendation of our pastor, who is also a headmaster of a classical school, and teacher of Latin!)

On top of these, he will be doing intensive SAT prep using Khan as well as Princeton Review

Online Resources: Sesame Street Games

I love the Sesame Street Games ...I think they are the best for preschoolers. They teach important concepts, at the same time, making computer skills real easy. For eg, there is no "click and drag"...that's hard for them...there's "click" "move" "click". There are some games Ian really likes...(click on photo for the games) That's the Wheels on the Bus song (you press the keys foe interactive movements) Patterns. Seasons. Fun for the kids. Walking the dogs...numbers. This is alltime favorite. First you make a pitcher of lemonade. Then depending on how many monsters come, you click however many cups. I love it!

Science 2015/2016: Human Body Recap

We really had fun learning about the Human Body this year. I thought it would be meaningful to consolidate our learning. We enjoyed the Body Book more than I thought we would. I did do most of the cutting though. We also enjoyed the different videos we watched and the experiments. I think this is the most successful science year yet.
