2014/2015 School Year Plan and Curriculum

We are back from Summer. One part of me laments. The other part is so fired up for the new year I can't wait. This summer we read quite a bit. Here are the books Big Sis read and here's the list of Big Bro. We also did Math almost everyday and Big Bro finished 3A and started on 3B. Big Sis finished 1B and did mostly Kumon Math practice. We had wonderful family vacations, made lots of jam, biked a fair bit and Big Sis dumped the training wheels. It was a lovely break. 4th Grade/2nd Grade Curriculum 2014/2015 History/Geography:  My Father's World Creation to the Greeks  MFW CtG   English: Rod and Staff English (I decided to do this instead of ILL) Preparing to Buil d (2) Building with Diligence (4) Math: Singapore Math (starting with 3B and 2A) Science: Science in the Beginning   (with journals graciously made and shared by mommies in the group) Art: God and the History of Art Music: Vivaldi, Bach and Handel (and piano for Big Sis)...

Our SchoolRoom 2013-2014

Our "schoolroom" is basically almost our entire small NYC 900+ sq ft 2 bedroom apartment. This year it's a little different from last . This is a "tour" (more like stand in one spot and do a 360 deg turn). The "main area": Dining Room/Artroom/Schoolworkroom/snackroom/chatroom. On the side, you see Mommy's reduced-size table. Computer work or individual work can be done here. This is THE ROOM.  And all the materials/supplies. (Well, I do have a small cupboard somewhere else in the apt that holds much of past years things and some other materials) Top Level: Binders, lapbooks 2nd Level: Art/craft materials 3rd Level: Writing and drawing materials, cuisenaire rods, blocks 4th level: All the books for this year 5th level: Craft, writing materials, glue, scissors and such. 6th level: My trusty laminator, busy activity bag box, file folder games box and paper box. I thought of so many ways to put the school suppl...

2012 School"room"

In case anyone is interested, this is how we do school in a small NYC 2-bedroom apartment. We do school at the dining table. Afterall, it IS the place where many amazing conversations were held! Not too different from last year .  First, our board is simpler. oh wait. There is NO BOARD! =) hahaha...I used the paper rings as a border and that will be our "Jesus" Poster this year (for Adventures). I use poster tack to put the verses up. Then, our morning board is simpler too. Trying to cut clutter in the house. The map (I really should have gotten TWO maps, instead of flipping the US map and world map back and forth) is under the vinyl cover. I REALLY like the map there...by the time we REALLY want to study the states, I think Ian would have memorized the map after SOOOO many months of looking at it! Alright, here's the corner.hmm...quite a mess, but I TRY!!!   Morning Board + Kindergarten board (I'm only putting up the card, and the phrase for the week...

Homeschool corner

We don't have a homeschool room, only a corner. No big shelves, closets, desks... This is where we put our active school stuff. (There is another small cabinet where we put the inactive ones) And this really is a corner. The dining table is our school table. Afterall, we live in a small NYC 2-bedroom apartment. This is good enough.

Organization for School 2011

This is how we organize school this year. (I suppose it'll change as last year did, so I'll edit the post again at the end of the year) 1st, I do the lesson plan s. More elaborate for 1st grade (I'm trying to find a way to upload it here on my blog). Easy for PreK (I merely try to put down 3 activities/workbooks for her everyday). Preschooler also joins us for the activities of 1st grade if it's appropriate. 2nd, I put stickies on the pages of the workbooks/books etc that Ian was to do that day. Put them in the different subjects tabs in the workbox . Then put the workbox tag up. Every time we finish an activity, he takes the tag down and go to the next one. I'm trying to retry the workbox, since it didn't work last year . I'm hoping to train him in this method so that when the other kids need more work, he can be more independent. Our morning board . He can do this independently now. *Days of school *Date *Weather Chart *100 chart *Jewish ...
