MFW Adventures Week 12: President Washington, DE,PA,NJ,GA

We begin the State Study and we LOVE IT!!!! We use the State Notebook and add information from here . Instead of the map in the State Notebook, we use state outline maps. This is the State Bird book which has great graphics! For Delaware , we learnt it's the first state PENNSYLVANIA We learnt it's the Keystone State. Why? I told Ian what is a keystone, and he immediately took his Thomas book out and said "they said the keystone is falling and it's dangerous!" (that's the middle stone of the curved bridge). SOOO wonderful to see the kids integrate learning and how their eyes brightened when they understood. And of course we learnt it's where Hershey chocolates are made. We had a snack. And because we happened to be in PA this week, we went to Hershey!! =) Such a treat. We went there for the free tour (which the kids loved) and had a snack before heading back to Lancaster where we were vacationing One of our favorite vacation spots:...

Thanksgiving Week 2012

This year, we followed Adventures and read the different bible verses everyday, read the "Thanksgiving Story" everyday and we did some crafts. Easy stuff for the first three days of the week.   This was a really fun craft. Our 2nd grader didn't want to do the handprint, so he drew his own turkey   Oh, we do love this...but they are not fond of candy corn.   I LOVE this! They were SOOO creative in writing the things they are thankful for. There was one he depicted by drawing "I thank God we are not too rich and not too poor" (we had this conversation before and I'm so impressed he remembered)   The first thing the girl said "I thank God for beautiful flowers" aw...   Isn't this the funnest thing??!?!?! I saw it on fb (Plum Kids) and since I had the brown pear,GOTTA DO IT! =)   Indian games (they didn't like it)   Indian games

MFW Adventures Week 10: America Revolutionary War

Our last week of school before we take a break, slightly more than a month, in anticipation of our 4th child. She should arrive anytime and I'll take a nice month-long recuperation, eating all the good food, herbal concoctions and simply resting. Have printed a stack of Math worksheets for them to work on when they get bored during this time. And I guess they can continue their reading too. Other than that, we'll have fun in the "Home Economics" subject.   Since I'm not an American citizen, learning about the birth of this country has been very very fascinating for me! All new information and some really encouraged me. I felt that every citizen of their own country should really familiarize themselves with how their country come about. It was not an easy road and many had to sacrifice for what this country is today. We should be grateful.   He remembered the liberty bell (from the stamp collection) which his granddad pasted on one of his books. We star...
