1st Grade, Rome to Reformation Week 6: Roman Arch, Aqueducts, Augustus Caesar as god

BIBLE We revised the Roman Verses this week (Rom 3:23, 5:8, 8:28) Instead of the Proverbs verses, Lil Sis memorized with her elder siblings. HISTORY We learnt about the Roman Arch and aqueducts First we learnt how strong the arch is. Without the arch, the bridge could take no more than 8 "soldiers". With the arch... The bridge took more than we could count...well, I had no more pennies. The kids thought it being a REALLY cool "experiment". NOW. To the LONG AWAITED arch experiment... I gritted my teeth and bought ALL these pudding a month ago. We made some LOVELY desserts out of them. In the name of education...what's some coloring... (CRINGE) So. Here's the prep. Remove the pudding, label them. (Make sure they get consumed before expiry date) Cut the 4 flaps off from one side of the opening. Slit open both the narrow sides of the box Tape them down. Now you have a wedge. Repeat for 15 times and KEEP pra

1st Grade, Rome to Reformation Week 5: Augustus Caesar, How we got our months, Aeneid

BIBLE We memorized the Roman Verses this week (Rom 3:23, 5:8, 8:28) and we discussed these verses. Lil Sis memorized Prov 10:12. This year I decided I will choose the proverb verses that will be applicable for her. HISTORY We learnt about how Octavian became Augustus Caesar, the Pantheon and also the Aeneid. Augustus Caesar's World is a difficult read for them. I had to read on my own (mommy needs private study time) and make summary notes. The stories, though, were very interesting. I like it a lot. We learnt about how the months were named This week the older kids "read" quite a few chapters of  Bronze Bow  from the audio book we borrowed from the library (digitally). Big Sis suggested to me if they could read half chapter at a time. Even though I was reluctant at first (I don't like to fall behind "schedule" this early of the year!), I quickly realized I would be making a BIG mistake to refuse. Better for them to "understand&quo

A Day in the Life of the Su's

September 8th 2015 6:00am Big Bro and Big Sis woke. Self work. Piano practice. Reading. And goodness knows what else they did. (Lil Sis, Daddy and I were sound asleep of course) 6:30am Baby Sis came into our room and said she needed to use the toilet. That woke ME up. After that, she joined BB and BS to do goodness knows what they did outside. I read my bible, checked emails that came in the night. 7:18am Mommy made breakfast and lunch for daddy (Baby Sis helped out with the egg) At the same time, Big Bro read a chapter of " Carnivorous Carniva l" (A series of unfortunate events) to me. 7:34am Breakfast. Today we had no bake granola, a new attempt Mommy did the night before. Having breakfast with daddy is a luxury many children do not have. We are blessed. 7:46am Facetime with grannies in Singapore. That is another luxury not every child has and we treasure these times. Then "bye bye" to daddy! 7:55am Clean up. Get ready
