MFW Exploration to 1850 WEEK 19-20: American Revolution, Birds, Fish

Bible

This week we finished revising and memorizing up to the whole of James 2

We sang Hark the Herald Angels Sing for Christmas.

History

We continued learning about the Revolution. These two weeks we had a lot of Christmas breaks.

We watched quite a few videos from this site about Washington. They were very interesting!

Language

We continued with Spelling power and Rod and Staff.

I also felt that Lil Sis needed more help in reading, so we started a reading log and she would read to me everyday for a few pages.

Science

This week we learnt about birds.

Birds' digestive system.

We started learning about fish and will continue in Week 21.

Art

We are using Artistic Pursuits K-3 (Book 2) this year.

We learnt about Anguissola, one of the few well-known women artists of the Renaissance.

We did a watercolor over oil pastel drawing. Didn't work THAT well for most of them. We needed tempera paints instead.

Online Resources: Sesame Street Games

I love the Sesame Street Games ...I think they are the best for preschoolers. They teach important concepts, at the same time, making computer skills real easy. For eg, there is no "click and drag"...that's hard for them...there's "click" "move" "click". There are some games Ian really likes...(click on photo for the games) That's the Wheels on the Bus song (you press the keys foe interactive movements) Patterns. Seasons. Fun for the kids. Walking the dogs...numbers. This is alltime favorite. First you make a pitcher of lemonade. Then depending on how many monsters come, you click however many cups. I love it!

Science 2015/2016: Human Body Recap

We really had fun learning about the Human Body this year. I thought it would be meaningful to consolidate our learning. We enjoyed the Body Book more than I thought we would. I did do most of the cutting though. We also enjoyed the different videos we watched and the experiments. I think this is the most successful science year yet.
