2019-2020 School Plan

We have entered a new milestone! This year we have a highschooler, a junior highschooler, a middle schooler, an elementary schooler, and a "What on earth am I here for" toddler-schooler.

Here is our plan.

HIGHSCHOOL 9th Grade

1. OT Bible, Ancient World History, Ancient Literature (English), 1 credit each.
96102
After much prayer and discussion, we have decided to stay with MFW for highschool. The core of it will cover 3 credits.

I am also doing the Old Testament Challenge with him.

2. Biology, 1 credit
50082
We are using Apologia's Biology, with a lot of help from Virtual Homeschool Group's FREE teaching videos. I think Tammy does an AMAZING job teaching. We will still do our own tests, labs, and notebook, but the bulk of the teaching might be done by her. Most likely we won't do dissection, but we did get a nifty microscope for the many labs.
And this year, I decided to buy the student notebook for DS. I REALLY like it!

3. Algebra I, 1 credit
We found this textbook recommended by Chalkdust Math and I like it very much. It's structured in a way very much like college Math (according to DH, who went to college here). And guess what? There are FREE teaching videoes (by the chalkdust teacher, Uncle Buck!) here! DS started this near the end of 8th grade and I hope he will start Algebra II before 9th grade ends.

4. Foreign Language, 1 credit
This is the curriculum we FINALLY decided upon last year for foreign language (Mandarin Chinese)

We are switching to Pinyin, and simplified Chinese (which will be my area).

5. Electives
As the year goes on, we will add on some electives. For now, he's already spending more than 5 hours a week on making quality youtube art videos, so we're trying to see how we can incorporate that into a credit for him.

Logistics
We are using this FREE gradebook to keep all his records and transcripts. I like it A LOT!!

7th, 5th, 2nd Grade

1. Ancient History (Creation to the Greeks)
Creation to the Greeks
We are cycling back to Creation to the Greeks. We did not have a great experience last time and I was apprehensive about it. BUT!!! Going back to prep it this year, I have more confidence in it!! I think we will have a blast. I'm so excited.

We will memorize some chunks of bible, and read through a lot of OT stories.

We will read some interesting literature together
12380 12302

and we will study the English Greek Roots
12303
We will use Quizlet to practice those words.

2. Math
Lil Sis and Baby Sis will continue with Singapore Math

20827

3. Science

4. Art

Online Resources: Sesame Street Games

I love the Sesame Street Games ...I think they are the best for preschoolers. They teach important concepts, at the same time, making computer skills real easy. For eg, there is no "click and drag"...that's hard for them...there's "click" "move" "click". There are some games Ian really likes...(click on photo for the games) That's the Wheels on the Bus song (you press the keys foe interactive movements) Patterns. Seasons. Fun for the kids. Walking the dogs...numbers. This is alltime favorite. First you make a pitcher of lemonade. Then depending on how many monsters come, you click however many cups. I love it!

Science 2015/2016: Human Body Recap

We really had fun learning about the Human Body this year. I thought it would be meaningful to consolidate our learning. We enjoyed the Body Book more than I thought we would. I did do most of the cutting though. We also enjoyed the different videos we watched and the experiments. I think this is the most successful science year yet.
