2020-2021 Rome to Reformation Week 6

Last week was our break week. And here are some things we did.

We painted. These are some of the ones done by Lil Sis and Big Sis.

The kids completed their powerpoint course by daddy.

We went on a car ride into the city and marveled at the fact that we are able to see the World Trade Center just a ride away.

This is breakfast made by Lil Sis. Yogurt, banana, berries, and sprinkles. Always fancy.

And...it's back to school! =) The kids joked that we are having lots of "last day of school" and "first day of school" this year.

The breakfast to start our new week. Risen in the fridge, baked first thing in the morning.

Bible
We revised the Roman verses this week.

History
We learnt about the Roman architecture.
This was an "aqueduct" hubby built some weeks back to channel the water from the AC to the side of the building. It was great to see the working of an "aqueduct".

We did a lapbook component on the architecture of Rome. The older two did research on them, and Baby Sis had the one with text printed.

We also learnt about the Roman mythology and  warfare.

This was a fun resource on the Roman gods.

I LOVE it that Project Passport makes it so fun and enjoyable to read.

We did the arch experiment to show that the arch adds strength to the bridge

Of course, we had to do the pudding boxes arch activity. I kept the pudding boxes from 5 years back. If not, we'll have to eat 15 packs of pudding again. =)

Success!

The Bronze Bow is FINALLY back from reserve, so we binge read the book this week.

We did another Latin Roots test.

We also watched some Drive Thru History (Rome) videos on Rightnow Media. It was quite fun to review some things. (They are a bit long though...around 30 mins each)

Science
We learnt about taste and smell this week.
We had some taste experiments.

Then the girls finished the unit of the Nervous System and did a test. They did really well!

Art

We drew the arch, using "God and the History of Art" material.

8th Grade
Big Sis learnt about the microscope this week and had fun looking at threads under the microscope

We continue to do lunch boxes on some days, and it is a great motivation for the kids.

Online Resources: Sesame Street Games

I love the Sesame Street Games ...I think they are the best for preschoolers. They teach important concepts, at the same time, making computer skills real easy. For eg, there is no "click and drag"...that's hard for them...there's "click" "move" "click". There are some games Ian really likes...(click on photo for the games) That's the Wheels on the Bus song (you press the keys foe interactive movements) Patterns. Seasons. Fun for the kids. Walking the dogs...numbers. This is alltime favorite. First you make a pitcher of lemonade. Then depending on how many monsters come, you click however many cups. I love it!

Science 2015/2016: Human Body Recap

We really had fun learning about the Human Body this year. I thought it would be meaningful to consolidate our learning. We enjoyed the Body Book more than I thought we would. I did do most of the cutting though. We also enjoyed the different videos we watched and the experiments. I think this is the most successful science year yet.
