2021-2022: Week 3

HISTORY This week we learnt about King James, John Smith, and Jamestown. We came up with the banned words' list and the alternatives together. Then the girls wrote notebook pages on King James. They also did google quizzes (I made them) for Story of the World. We learnt about John Smith. We watched this video for Jamestown. We also learnt about the French explorers and I asked the girls to read this book. We did a Jamestown replica model. It was fun! I cut the pieces the night before though, for that took the longest time and work. FOREIGN LANGUAGE The girls started spelling as well as Chinese this week. I'm using materials from this site  and made worksheets for them to learn the words Once in a while we get a nice pictorial learning of Chinese words. =) BIG SIS (9th Grade) Big Sis did some fun experiments for Chemistry this week. 2021-2022: Week 2

  We're onto our 2nd week! HISTORY We learnt about Charles V, The Spanish explorers, William the Silent (Dutch), Mary Queen of Scots. I added more things onto the timeline other than the ones given by MFW.  We used IEW style to write about Charles V and William the Silent. These are the notebook pages they did For the Story of the World, the girls listened to the audio reading by Jim Weiss, and I made short google quizzes for them. They also listened to this fun podcast on Mary Queen of Scots MIDDLE SCHOOL Lil Sis learnt about plates, volcanoes, earthquakes, and glaciers. 9TH GRADE Big Sis started Chemistry this week! (as well as Intro to Logic) Lab reports. This is a fun book for Geography! "Many maps are not accurate because they don't include Alaska and Hawaii". WHAT??!?! Big Sis has been giving us trivia and fun facts everyday. =) And she finished "From here to Eternity" book. We went through the process of writing an argumentative (critical) essay. She

New School Year 2021-2022: Week 1

  And here we go. =) 2 Highschoolers, 1 middle schooler, 1 elementary schooler, and one 3 year-old prepper. =) This is our school set up this year. The younger girls at the dining table. We got our first whiteboard after 11 years of homeschooling. Hmm... Their books (English/Math/binders) are in boxes under our living room mantlepiece/cabinet. This is a table at the living room, and on one side is my computer, and on the other, Big Sis's school table. I got this table-top bookends and I think they work really well. Big Bro gets the small table under the loft in the kids' room. We (all seven of us) live in a 900 sq ft 2-bedroom apartment in NYC. We have to try creatively to work around this space that God gave us. Our first day tradition includes a nice breakfast. This year it's dunkin' donuts, bagels, and fruits. And I made them bubble tea. =) The youngest two had smoothies. HISTORY We memorized the pledge of allegiance.  We learnt about the explorers, mainly Leif Eric
