MFW CtG/K Week 20: C-c Cow, Samuel, Saul, Trojan War

4th/2nd Grade Creation to the Greeks

Psalms 23

The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures
He leads me beside still waters.
He restores my soul.
He leads me in paths of righteousness
    for his name's sake.

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,[c]
    I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
    your rod and your staff,
    they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me
    in the presence of my enemies;
you anoint my head with oil;
    my cup overflows.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
    all the days of my life,
and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord
    forever.

Bible/History

  • We talked about Samuel's story and Saul as the first king
  • The kids memorized the whole Ps 23 on their own.
  • We also learnt about the Trojan War and started on Children's Homer
  • The kids took turns reading this book and I read Children's Homer to them. I listened to the audio version (from the library) to learn some of the pronunciation of the names!

Math/Science

  • Day 4 of Creation (Sun and Moon)
  • Shadow and Sun Dial

  • We learnt about how sundials work
  • Why the sky blue or orange?

  • I really enjoyed this experiment. The"biv" rays bounced off the most and when there are a lot of dust particles (sun is shining from horizon), we see more of orange and red.

Language

  • Rod and Staff
  • Spelling Power for Big Bro
  • Spelling by Sight and Structure for Big Sis

Coloring of the Annunciation was fun.

Have you wondered?

  • How did Samuel and Eli, both servants of God, produced sons who are "evil"?!?!

Kindergarten:C-c Cow

I made this worksheet for my girl who needed more practice with the CVC sounds

abcmouse had some nice "reading" books on cows and farms.

Yes, we had some dairy. Like milk, yogurt, sour cream, butter...

Cow handprint!

We watched "Ferdinand" and did these worksheets.

Our "Cow" books have not arrived, so we'll read them later...

Online Resources: Sesame Street Games

I love the Sesame Street Games ...I think they are the best for preschoolers. They teach important concepts, at the same time, making computer skills real easy. For eg, there is no "click and drag"...that's hard for them...there's "click" "move" "click". There are some games Ian really likes...(click on photo for the games) That's the Wheels on the Bus song (you press the keys foe interactive movements) Patterns. Seasons. Fun for the kids. Walking the dogs...numbers. This is alltime favorite. First you make a pitcher of lemonade. Then depending on how many monsters come, you click however many cups. I love it!
