1st Grade, Rome to Reformation Week 19: Vikings, feudalism, reproduction, Strange battle

BIBLE

We memorized 1 Cor 12:1-8

We continued to read on Luke and the life of Jesus.

Lil Sis was sick this week, she only did the battle of Jericho.

HISTORY

We learnt about the vikings, Battle of Hastings, and the beginning of the Medieval era.

We started reading The Door in the Wall.

Big Bro's little knight collection came to school.

We learnt to play the Nine Men Morris. Quite fun!

LANGUAGE
The older kids continued on Rod and Staff English.

Lil Sis worked on her phonics, bible books and bible notebook
We played the BAM sight word game I found online. Within a time limit (we set 3 minutes), she picked sight words from the bag and read them. If she picked "BAM", all the cards go back into the bag and she started again. She was really good!

The older two continued on Lesson 7 åº·è»’一下 for Mandarin Chinese

We learnt two more Latin words "jacio" and "pono positum" this week.
We did Spelling Power.

MATH
Lil Sis went on to numbers this week for Singapore Math.

SCIENCE
This week mommy sat with each kid individually to read the book "the Wonderful Way Babies are made".
There was no new information for Big Bro, but we reiterate the open conversation policy. For Big Sis, the information was new and she was intrigued. We scaled down quite a bit for Lil Sis and Baby Sis looked at the pictures and wanted to go back to diapers. =)

ART
We read about tapestries and attempted to draw the Bayeux Tapestry

We also watched a really interesting video on tapestry making.

Online Resources: Sesame Street Games

I love the Sesame Street Games ...I think they are the best for preschoolers. They teach important concepts, at the same time, making computer skills real easy. For eg, there is no "click and drag"...that's hard for them...there's "click" "move" "click". There are some games Ian really likes...(click on photo for the games) That's the Wheels on the Bus song (you press the keys foe interactive movements) Patterns. Seasons. Fun for the kids. Walking the dogs...numbers. This is alltime favorite. First you make a pitcher of lemonade. Then depending on how many monsters come, you click however many cups. I love it!

I did do most of the cutting though. We also enjoyed the different videos we watched and the experiments. I think this is the most successful science year yet.
