2020-2021 Rome to Reformation Week 11

 Bible

This week we memorized Rom 12:4-5.

And we read more about the 1st century church and the missionary journeys of Paul.

These videos really helped us understand Acts better.

We made these pages from the Project Passport (Ancient Rome). I cannot recommend more highly about a homeschool product than this one for Ancient Rome.

Also, I felt that the way My Father's World curriculum taught us to read the passages of Paul's journeys were very well done too.

Next week we will take a break and then go on to Middle Ages! I felt that Project Passport is not as useful for Middle Ages.

Science

We learnt about types of bones and I made this simple worksheet for them.

We also learnt about joints. I didn't let them make the models. Instead, I showed them the models we made before. I think that was good enough.
Then the girls went on a scavenger hunt for joints in the house. These are just some examples of what they found.

And we learnt about muscles.

Foreign Language
We are learning Mandarin Chinese, using duolingo as a guide to what words to learn. They practice on duolingo and I give them worksheets and helped them learn to write the words.
We use this app for writing (Word Tracer). It is free now and I think it works very well.

Today we did a review game. I generate a random number from the list of words we learnt, and either asked them to write, to read, to write the pinyin, or show them the pinyin for them to write the words. It was a fun review.

Read aloud
We continued to read Twice Freed and it is very interesting to now connect the names and places to the bible we were reading this week (I LOVE this about MFW! The connection!!)

Online Resources: Sesame Street Games

I love the Sesame Street Games ...I think they are the best for preschoolers. They teach important concepts, at the same time, making computer skills real easy. For eg, there is no "click and drag"...that's hard for them...there's "click" "move" "click". There are some games Ian really likes...(click on photo for the games) That's the Wheels on the Bus song (you press the keys foe interactive movements) Patterns. Seasons. Fun for the kids. Walking the dogs...numbers. This is alltime favorite. First you make a pitcher of lemonade. Then depending on how many monsters come, you click however many cups. I love it!

Science 2015/2016: Human Body Recap

We really had fun learning about the Human Body this year. I thought it would be meaningful to consolidate our learning. We enjoyed the Body Book more than I thought we would. I did do most of the cutting though. We also enjoyed the different videos we watched and the experiments. I think this is the most successful science year yet.
