2020-2021 Rome to Reformation Week 2

We took a week's break and we're ready to be back to school...again!

Computer
Daddy continues his 3 times weekly 15 mins every time computer lessons with the children. They are learning Microsoft Excel now. He is amazing!!

History
We learnt about the wars fought after Rome became a republic and the girls wrote an article on the Gallic sack of Rome in 390 B.C.

3rd Grader

6th Grader

8th Grader

We also learnt about the Punic Wars

and how the republic started to falter.

We read/drew some postcards. (These are super fun!!)

We did an interesting page on the Cursus Honorum and the SPQR (Senatus Populusque Romanus, the Senate and the people)

These are the snapshots this week

I love these! A fan deck for the famous people of Rome.
We also started mapping out Rome's conquests.

Art
We drew Hannibal and his elephants (from Draw and Write Through History) on the postcards

Read-A-Loud
We started reading Bronze Bow
The Bronze Bow by Elizabeth George Speare, Paperback | Barnes & Noble®

Latin Roots
We learnt the words Unus, Duo, Tres, Quattuor and we did a small "test" found on the fb page of MFW RtR

Foreign Language
Lil Sis and Baby Sis started Foreign Language this week. I made some worksheets to go with Duolingo.
We also use this app to practice writing.

Spelling
We did the Spelling Power Assessment Test.
Lil Sis stopped at the beginning of Level F last year, and this year she tested at Level G. When she first tested at 3rd Grade (3 years ago), she was at Level B. I consider this a HUGE improvement.

Baby Sis tested at Level F.

Science
We started learning about the nervous system.
We made a brain hat and learnt about the different parts of the brain.

Also, one day we went downstairs for a nature walk.
I LOVE their journal page. Hope we can keep this up!

This is Lil Sis'

8th Grade
Big Sis is doing wonderful on her Algebra I, got a 97% on her mid chapter quiz and a 100% on her first Biology chapter quiz.

Online Resources: Sesame Street Games

I love the Sesame Street Games ...I think they are the best for preschoolers. They teach important concepts, at the same time, making computer skills real easy. For eg, there is no "click and drag"...that's hard for them...there's "click" "move" "click". There are some games Ian really likes...(click on photo for the games) That's the Wheels on the Bus song (you press the keys foe interactive movements) Patterns. Seasons. Fun for the kids. Walking the dogs...numbers. This is alltime favorite. First you make a pitcher of lemonade. Then depending on how many monsters come, you click however many cups. I love it!

I did do most of the cutting though. We also enjoyed the different videos we watched and the experiments. I think this is the most successful science year yet.
