2021-2022 Week 5

This week was special. It was our anniversary getaway and we were very blessed to have my in-laws to come be with the kids for two days. Lil Sis and Baby Sis always have a schedule to follow, but part of school is taught by me. Those two days I made a schedule that they have to complete all by themselves. They did a tremendous job. They learnt about the 13 colonies and the New England Colonies.

The other days we also learnt about Miles Standish and wrote a notebook page about him.

This was our process. We came up with all the things we learnt about him. I also gave them an article to read. Then we came up with the outline together. They then wrote out the paragraph and added dress-ups and sentence openers (IEW)

It was fun to see Captain Standish appear on our read-aloud.
We also did the Massachusetts Colony and Rhode Island Colony Notebook page.
This is an example of how we did the pages. (for New York)
I would put in questions for them to research and then they have to put all the answers into a paragraph.

Lil Sis continued to learn about rocks.

They also did other Chinese work (learning the words and watch simple initials videos here)

9th GRADE

Big Sis learnt about the USA this week. This is a really fun and informative book. I love the way Guesthollow's workbook has questions for every city.

She made this AMAZING apple pie all by herself.

And she did an interesting aspen tree project.

For writing/English, she wrote a short research paper on the Amish people group of the US.
And she did a couple of tests this week too.

And she did a test on the 50 states. She is an expert on the states, so I challenged her to use the abbreviations instead for fun.

11th GRADE
Big Bro continued his American History Study, Physics, Algebra II, Logic, SAT prep, and Latin.
I am grateful that Latin got off a good start!

PREPPER
He suddenly wanted to color the Hungry Caterpillar pages. (He LOVES that book) So adorable to see him work hard at coloring. =)

Online Resources: Sesame Street Games

I love the Sesame Street Games ...I think they are the best for preschoolers. They teach important concepts, at the same time, making computer skills real easy. For eg, there is no "click and drag"...that's hard for them...there's "click" "move" "click". There are some games Ian really likes...(click on photo for the games) That's the Wheels on the Bus song (you press the keys foe interactive movements) Patterns. Seasons. Fun for the kids. Walking the dogs...numbers. This is alltime favorite. First you make a pitcher of lemonade. Then depending on how many monsters come, you click however many cups. I love it!

Science 2015/2016: Human Body Recap

We really had fun learning about the Human Body this year. I thought it would be meaningful to consolidate our learning. We enjoyed the Body Book more than I thought we would. I did do most of the cutting though. We also enjoyed the different videos we watched and the experiments. I think this is the most successful science year yet.
