1st Grade, Rome to Reformation Week 8: Roman Soldier, Skin, Germanic tribes

BIBLE

We revised the Roman Road verses and also the NT books.
Then we went on the memorize Romans 12:1 this week.
Lil Sis did a revision on her verses.

Also we read on the account of John the Baptist and also Jesus as a boy.

HISTORY

We learnt about the Roman Soldiers and I used this worksheet to go further on the topic.
We also talked about death of Herod and the migration of the Germanic Tribes

We read the Bronze Bow.

LANGUAGE
The older kids continued on Rod and Staff English.

For Lil Sis, we read more phonic books from here

And we started the Bible Reader!!

This is the first child I actually had to go through the word list BEFORE reading the reader. And I found MFW really prepared her well to this stage. My first two children were reading well at this point, whereby my third is the only one who went through MFW K and 1st and only learning the words they taught. It is exciting to see that this curriculum really works even for a "normal pace"learner like her! =)

I wished I took a video of her reading the first page of the bible reader. She was SOOO proud of herself. =)

We did the first Bible Notebook page. She wanted to do the "night" page this way. =)

The older two started Lesson 5 康軒一下 for Mandarin Chinese and Lil Sis learnt more bopomofo.

We learnt two more Latin words "pater patris" and "mater matris" this week.

We did Spelling Power.

MATH
Lil Sis continued to do worksheets on addition.

SCIENCE
We learnt about the skin this week and the layers of it.

The kids enjoyed learning about how amazing our skin is! I hurt my toe this week and there was a big bruise. I took the chance to show them that it is the skin that keeps the blood in (that's why the bruise). How timely. =)

ART
We did not do any special art project this week.

1st Grade, Rome to Reformation Week 7: Jesus Born, Ear

BIBLE

This week we memorized verses for the Roman Road to Salvation. I thought this will be quite a good tool for them, since we were already memorizing some Roman verses.

We did
Rom 3:23, 6:23, 5:8 and 10:9-10

Lil Sis memorized Proverbs 10:19
Too much talk leads to sin. Be sensible and keep your mouth shut.

We also started to read on the account of Jesus' birth and life from the gospels.
HISTORY

We learnt about Augustus Caesar as the Emperor and also the philosophers.
We put up the timeline for Jesus' birth and we talked about why it is 5 B.C. and not 1 A.D.

And we made a dessert for Roman Road! =) We adapted the recipe from here

The Sand Layer (crushed graham crackers)

Mortar and rocks. (pudding and chocolate chips)

cement (cream cheese and whipped cream)

stone slabs (Marie biscuits)

Most of the Bronze Bow this week was listened to the digital audiobook we borrowed from the library

LANGUAGE
The older kids continued on Rod and Staff English. Big Sis did a test for Chapter 1.

For Lil Sis I found this site with great phonics printables!! They are REALLY good "books" for practice and they are free. We practiced the "oo" sounds and the "or", "ar" books.

The older two had their review test for Lesson 1-4 康軒一下 for Mandarin Chinese.

We learnt two more Latin words "mille" and "annus" this week.
