I cannot believe we have circled one round and back to Exploring Countries and Cultures ! This year, I have a 1st Grader, 4th Grader, 6th Grader, and 8th Grader. On top of that, I will have a baby to spice things up! Woo-hoo! Here is our plan this year. BIBLE The 2 middle girls will read Matthew, using this devotional . Baby Sis will go through MFW 1st Grade : Learning God's Story So she will go through the entire Bible, while memorizing some proverbs. As a family, we will continue to memorize Philippians chapters 3-4. For Big Bro, he signed up for this devotional . We will also read Hero Tales and other YWAM missionaries' stories. GEOGRAPHY/SOCIAL SCIENCE We will do a travel journal for each child, pretending that we "traveled" that country. Will see how it goes, but I think it suits my creative girls. In my opinion, every year that went by with the children accelerates a little and my heart breaks a little. There are parents who cannot wait for their kids to grow up and there are others who yearn to tug at every bit of their time and hope it will tarry a little more. I belong to the latter. The time with the children is SO precious!! These are the things I really enjoyed this year and some I did not or would do differently. YAY! Stuff Calendar Time I like the system we used for Little Sis and I think this calendar time made a HUGE difference to her understanding of Math concepts. Anatomy and Astronomy I know some parents found this tedious, but we REALLY enjoyed the learning of the human body through the models this year. BIBLE We memorized Philippians 2:13-14  We read about John Calvin and John Knox. I decided to forego Anne Askew and the Latimer stories because I don't think the kids could take it. HISTORY We learnt about the spread of Reformation and Counter Reformation, Copernicus and Galileo, and Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth. LANGUAGE The older kids continued on Rod and Staff English. Lil Sis continued to practice reading The older two did a review for  康軒一下  for Mandarin Chinese and Lil Sis did practice on bopomofo MATH We continued to practice Math.  SCIENCE We learnt about the Kuiper Belt and Pluto We talked about the Pluto debate and I asked the kids to make their own stand by writing about it. We watched little videos of Pluto. It was so cool that we got more information now that New Horizons had the fly by last year. BIBLE We memorized Philippians 2:12 and did some review of verses  We read about Wycliffe, John Huss, Martin Luther, and William Tyndale. I felt that this week was such an important week. We talked about all the things the protesters were wanting to reform of the church, and our kids were astounded. I reminded them that we are so blessed to view those things as "absurd" because of these reformationists! Many of them had to pay with their lives so that we can live a faith so free! For Lil Sis, since we finished the bible reader, I asked her to pick a bible notebook page to do. HISTORY We learnt about the Gutenberg invention of the printing press and how that affected how bibles are printed and the reformation. We watched the video of the old fashioned art of making a book and marvelled at how the machine was just like the Gutenberg's design! This was a tough week as all the kids were ill. We did parts of school and skipped others. BIBLE We memorized Philippians 2:12 and did some review of verses  We finished the reading of 1 John For Lil Sis, we finished reading the bible reader, with me reading most of the last chapters since she lost her voice. HISTORY We finished up South America and other colonies and talked about the Renaissance. LANGUAGE The older kids continued on Rod and Staff English. BIBLE We memorized Philippians 2:5-11 and did some review of verses  We continued reading the book of 1 John. For Lil Sis, we read about the last supper, the cross, resurrection and ascension This isn't the first time we coincide so beautifully with the passion week. This week we prepare for Good Friday and Easter and Lil Sis was reading all about it! We were also reading about Leonardo Da Vinci, so this is a great time do the "Last Supper" craft . And we made the resurrection cookies. Last time we made these was three years back! These are the ingredients and this time all took turns to read (besides Baby Sis of course) The last step was the "seal" the tomb. The kids said "But we could take off the tape!"
