These two weeks for Bible/History we learnt about... ...the dispersion after the flood ...Ice Age, tower of babel ...Fertile Crescent (Ancient Mesopotamia) ...Unification of Egypt ...Life in Ancient Egypt and the Nile Bible We memorized the books of Old Testament (not all yet) We used this song (from Wee Sing) to help us as well. The Bentley Brothers always added lots of fun and laughter in our study of bible books. I wish they had songs on more books though. This year I took time to read (taking turns) a verse from each book, I think it helped with flipping to the book. My pastor taught us a real cool mnemonic for the minor prophets which I have been teaching the kids. Hosea Just (Joel) Ate(Amos) Orange(Obadiah) Jonah Might(Micah) Not(Nahum) Have(Habakkuk) Zephaniah Has(Haggai) Zero (Zechariah) Money (Malachi) History We made cuneiform cookies. We used this site to get their names. We did a dramatization of the Unification of Egypt. Always fun. ...

We finished week 2! This week, we learnt about... Bible ...Adam and Eve ...Cain and Abel ...Noah ...the Flood Culture ...the Jewish calendar Science ...light The girls made notebook pages on the computer for their bible and history lessons. This is an example of what Big Sis did. We made animal crackers And Lil Sis played with the Noah toyset We measured the ark downstairs, while it was raining! =) And we watched many good videos about the flood at this website We found where Turkey is and we drew the bible map Science This was one experiment we did on light and reflection White paper reflected most light Black absorbed most of the light Red reflect red light Big Sis did some experiments in General Science as well. She learnt about atoms and density. She learnt that atoms move faster in hotter temperature And she learnt about how solutions give off different substance. This was our favorite experiment....

Week 2 is still easy, for we have not started Spelling or art. Bible We started memorizing Philippians 1:1-8 History We started learning about the states by region. The older two have no problems. I need to remember more games with Lil Sis next week. Science We learnt about the elements and water surface tension This are the Slo-mo videos of the experiments Big Bro studied General Science on his own. He did these experiments this week. Big Sis did a science page on what she learnt. Language and Math Besides Rod & Staff, and Math, Big Bro started on writing. We are using Institute in Excellence for Writing this year. Big Bro had a LOT of fun listening to Andrew Pudewa. In fact, the other girls joined in because he was so amusing. =) We also started Mandarin Chinese this week. Lil Sis is finally writing words! Read A-louds We started Farmer Boy this week. Extras I attended a conference this week and we visited Connecticut...

I love week 1's. In the beginning, I learnt from the MFW schedule to make it light. It has made a huge difference to us easing into the new school year. Bible We did an ABC study of Philippians (author, Background, Context) and dove into memorizing 1:1-4. In the end I gave up doing "a Young Person's Guide to Knowing God" because I feel that studying and memorizing Philippians is enough. I let them do their own notations of the verses, something we learnt from this video . History We did a states Pre-test, in which the older two aced it, and Lil Sis needs work, which I was not surprised. We also learnt the northeast and south states. Science We learnt about atoms and how molecules changes. We watched this video that teaches about meringues, and we made some yummy meringue. Big Bro studied General Science on his own.
