R-Rock Volcano and Song Videos

Making the Volcano Experiment Wise men song (Chinese)

R-Rock Unit

Here are the things we did for R-Rock *Volcano Experiment (It was fun for the kids!) Check out the video on the next post *Watched some videos of volcanos on youtube *Read and talked extensively on the parable of the House on the Rock/Sand. *Did a coloring of that *We also played a game. I would say certain scenarios and the kids would run to the Foolish chair or Wise chair accordingly *Sang "Wise Men build his house upon the rock" (Chinese) *Used legos to build two houses (one well built, one not) and put them on the Bible (Rock) or "sand" (pony beads) Talking about pony beads, I had a "smack in the head" moment. I let the girls sit at the table during school and they REALLY like to play with the beads. Who wouldn't? But it was getting a pain for they would drop the beads and it would be difficult to find them. Today I decided to put them on a clean and plain carpet. OF COURSE, that's MUCH better!!!! easier to clean up. Of course it sti

R-Rock Plan

This is a less-activity week I suppose. Not much to find to do about rocks. Or rather...they might enjoy it more when they are older (like learning about minerals and sort). Anyhows, here are what we'll do: * collect rocks (hopefully we'll find some around...) Or I might have to buy some. * learning about the Wise man/foolish man (and review the song?) * what floats? experiment * make a volcano (baking soda and red vinegar our of clay mountain) or lavalite * Make Rock cookies and talk about minerals. A good resource and recipe here Books  we have (not much too) Let's Go Rock Collecting by Roma Gans I Love Rocks by Cari Meister Pebble, Susan Milord Stone Soup, Marcia Brown Bible He alone is my rock. He is the One who saves me. He is like a fort to me. I will always be secure. Ps 62:2 惟 獨 他 是 我 的 磐 石 、 我 的 拯 救 . 他 是 我 的 高 臺 . 我 必 不 很 動 搖 詩篇62:2

Z-Zebra Unit

Monday will be last day for Zebra. We'll do reading and Math (and if the weather is good again, we'll do an outdoor day too) Anyhows, here're what we did for Z-Zebra *Zebra craft with cut out stripes (good practice for Ian) * Roll a Zebra * Tangram of a horse (preschooler) *Watched an interesting slideshow/video of zebras here (the first 5 mins) *Made PB/J sandwich striped style. *Watch Bad Case of Stripes on storylineonline again. (love this reading!!) *Ian read "Put me in the zoo" ALL BY HIMSELF. So proud of him *Did a number of worksheets. I like the color by numbers one cos it combined subtraction in it. Other things. We did a lot of Math stuff too, like measuring. It was fun. The Math mat turned out to be too under-challenging for him, cos he found the pattern too fast.

K-Kangaroo Unit

Kangaroo Unit is quite fun. We... *Jumped and saw how far we jumped and then we were amazed that the kangaroo can jump from the kid's room to the door (30 feet) *did a kangaroo craft with cup (the girl, not the real "student" was the one who always likes crafts, instead of the boy) *read about Australia * sewed a pocket with a real needle and thread (since we read Katy No pocket) *Did a LOT of pattern practice (the theme for EarlyBird Math {Singapore}) I used lego to let him "copy" the pattern and then he had to predict the next repetition. It was so much easier for him that way. *started learning to make the "date" with coins . Eg 3/10 (10th), we used 2 nickels or a dime. *The Blue Kangaroo books were real fun. But we like McGillycuddy could the best

Penguin Unit

The Penguin unit was done in the midst jet lag...so I was surprised that we could finish school at all.  Also, one day was stopped for " 100 day " We love the books, esp the Emperor's egg (very easy to read and informational). The kids love "Tacky" too (I'm fine with it) The littlest has been very fussy during school time lately. She wanted my attention and it made school time difficult. So, that day, I decided to put her at the table and gave her book and crayons and paper. So, she actually sat through school time with us. Ha. No fuss anymore. =)

E-Elephant Unit

I only realized NOW that I didn't put the report for E-Elephant unit! haha...all ready for our vacation I was. For the Elephant unit we found a lot of great worksheets and it was fun doing them. Also we had SOOOO much fun with the books. I think I'll borrow/buy the Elephant and piggie series. They are SOOOOO funny!!!! We love them. Ian love the Horton books too. Ian's Elephant story was this: Once upon a time there was a elephant. He likes to eat food. He likes to eat piples food (people's). The elephant says goodby. I will miss you. The end.
