MFW K: S-s Sun

These are the books we read for the S-s Unit. As usual, we loved Hurry Granny Annie and Bear Shadow the best.

We got to a bundle in the craftsticks cup!
After that I put them into two cups. I found that this visual aid really helps the child to learn place value.

I let the child paint instead of color for the cards.

I love the intensity shown in this girl.

Cuisenaire rods

She worked very hard to keep her "S"s in the lines.

We did shadow drawing, using the flashlight on my phone. =)

Made another art work.

Tactile "S", I think using any kinesthetic way helps! =)

The "motto" page. I also memorized to her John 8:12

Jesus spoke the people once more and said, "I am the light of the World. If you follow me, you won't have to walk in darkness, for you will have the light that leads to life."

We ate sunflower seeds. =)

We did an artwork on Van Gogh's Sunflowers and talked about how the earth moves and how the sun shines on different part of earth.

We did a pop up book that I downloaded a while ago.

And this year we will be making a Kindergarten quilt. I'm so excited for this project.

We also watched the Sesame Street Podcast "S"

And we watched part of "Reading Rainbow", "My Shadow" on Amazon Prime and the "S" foods on the "ABC foods" app that Baby Sis REALLY loves.

A mini side note, while I was lamenting this is the last year I get to enjoy K, God gave us a gift! A real surprise! =) So, I guess it WON'T be the last year I get to enjoy K (God willing)

MFW 1850-Mod Week 4: David L/S, Garibaldi, Taiping Rebellion

Bible

We memorized Php 1:12-14 this week.

We do the notations together to memorize the verses.
This is for:
For everyone here, including the whole palace guard, knows that I am in chains because of Christ.

We learnt the song

The kids really enjoyed it.
This year I'm aligning the hymns to the Kindergarten unit. This is for S-s Sun.

History

We learnt about David Livingstone in Africa, the Italy Rebellion, and the Taiping Rebellion.

The older two are doing well on the outlines in the SOTW student sheets.

We were going to make pizza. Instead we had many opportunities to eat them outside! So we might have Ravioli the coming week instead for Italy.

We did a president Study on Franklin Pierce.

Science

We learnt the states of matter of water.

We learnt that pressure and salt quickens melting

Tried to do the fruit slush experiment which did not work for us.

We also laid out a dish to show evaporation.
This was Big Sis' page on Science this week.

We also did a really fun water experiment to show that when paper fibres soak in water they expand.

Language and Math

We started Spelling Power.

Lil Sis is in Group B and Big Sis in Group J.

Big Bro continued his writing practice for IEW and it is very interesting.

All the children also do Kumon practice as a supplement. This is for Baby Sis.

Read A-louds
We continued to read Farmer Boy.

Art
We are doing art in alignment with Kindergarten this year too. We did the Van Gogh Sunflowers this week. What I did was I asked them to look at the painting and choose how they want to replicate it.

Big Bro decided to paint in gray scale and then photoshop the color (which I don't have it now)

MFW 1850-Mod Week 3: Queen Victoria, Sepoy Rebellion, Crimean War

We came back from a vacation in Maine and we were ready to plug into Week 3!

Bible

We memorized Php 1:1-11.I LOVE the book of Philippians. It is uplifting.

History

We learnt about the Queen Victoria's England (Great Exhibition), Sepoy rebellion, and the Crimean War.

This year we used the Story of the World Student Sheets, and I felt it was good for the older two to practice writing outlines. It helps with retention. I did have to help them a little at first though.

We also watched this video on the Great Exhibition.

Lil Sis is not doing SOTW. She is doing the worksheets from U.S. Facts and Fun instead. It suits her well!

This was how we revised the states this week. I made laminated cards of the states names. The older ones have to put them in spatial order. Lil Sis pointed to the state when I drew a card.

We did the President Study on Millard Fillmore.

We had a lovely Victorian Tea, and read the chapter in U.S. History Cookbook.

Science

We learnt about DNA and States of Matter.

Language and Math

We did the pretest for Spelling Power this week for Big Sis and Lil Sis. I graduated Big Bro from Spelling.

Lil Sis continued her cursive writing practice. I am using worksheets from here. I have used them for the older two and found these worksheets helpful.

Read A-louds
We continued to read Farmer Boy.

MFWK 2017: Creation

My last child to do My Father's World Kindergarten and I feel like crying. I love this curriculum and I am sad this is the last time I will teach it.

Nevertheless, this is what we did for Creation Week.

I made a calendar book for Baby Sis, which she has to do a page every day. We are doing the craft sticks cup too.

We did the creation wheel craft at the end.

These are the work of Baby Sis for the days of creation.

I love creation snacks. Day 1: Light from darkness

Day 2: Clouds and water

Day 3: dry ground (dirt cup on pudding) and plants

Day 4: Sun, Moon, Stars

Day 5: Fish and birds

Day 6: Animals
