2020-2021 Rome to Reformation Week 31

We had a most delightful vacation last week and felt that we rested well. This week we continued to learn about the reformers The girls wrote keywords for 4-5 facts about Ann Askew, read their sentences to me (younger ones), then I asked them to do a dress-up. These were their final result I made these posters. We didn't write about John Calvin, but we taught about TULIP. This is for John Knox. The girls made notes for Henry VIII and Elizabeth I, getting their facts from this website . or here I ventured into asking them to do 1 sentence opener as well. I felt that using the IEW way of styling and structuring writing is really effective! This is one of the writings Baby Sis had to do for English. I asked her to do keywords (of facts), and then do a dress-up. Science This week we learnt about Kuiper Belt. When we were in vacation, I downloaded the Skyview Lite App  It was REALLY  REALLY cool to see the constellations!!! This app helped us to find the stars. Otherwise, I don't t...

Review iPad App: Usborne Sticker Dolly Dressing

Usborne graciously gifted us with the Sticker Dolly Dressing App in exchange for a review. If you have seen these books before, you'd have known how lovely it is to play with the dollies. Here are our thoughts (mom included, because, ahem, yes I sneaked to play with it too). LOVES 1. The ease of use. You just have to drag and drop the apparels, and they "fit" on their own (you'd be surprised how some "dress up" apps requires you to match very carefully). It is not hard to find where everything are. 2. Variety and beautiful graphics There are eight scenes to use the dolls and there are many outfits to choose from. We get to keep the finished product in a gallery, which is kind of nice. 3. More than one doll My daughter pointed out that it is fun that when you get to a scene, you can add dolls and dress up those friends too. IMPROVEMENTS 1. Different outfits for different scenes My daughter thinks it would be nice to have di...

MFW Adventures Week 12: President Washington, DE,PA,NJ,GA

We begin the State Study and we LOVE IT!!!! We use the State Notebook and add information from here . Instead of the map in the State Notebook, we use state outline maps. This is the State Bird book which has great graphics! For Delaware , we learnt it's the first state PENNSYLVANIA We learnt it's the Keystone State. Why? I told Ian what is a keystone, and he immediately took his Thomas book out and said "they said the keystone is falling and it's dangerous!" (that's the middle stone of the curved bridge). SOOO wonderful to see the kids integrate learning and how their eyes brightened when they understood. And of course we learnt it's where Hershey chocolates are made. We had a snack. And because we happened to be in PA this week, we went to Hershey!! =) Such a treat. We went there for the free tour (which the kids loved) and had a snack before heading back to Lancaster where we were vacationing One of our favorite vacation spots:...

The kids REALLY love this and me too, quite fun, interactive and educational) Puzzingo (free. like a wooden puzzle game and the younger ones LOVE this) Toca Doctor (we got it free, now $1.99, but it's quite fun for the younger ones, to "heal all the ailments" of the body, by putting up band-aid, or pulling out spikes, taking away germs etc) Teach Me ($1.99. we got them for a review, there's a toddler, K, 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade versions.
