MFWK: W-Water

Before we started the week, we did a "staycation" at a hotel just to swim. Will that count as part of "W-w Water"? It is Christmas/New Year weeks. Rather hard to do school. After I finished this week, I realized I didn't even talk to her about the 3 states of water! =( And we had no books at all... Will do better in 2018!!

MFW K: O-o Octopus

MFW 1850-Mod Week 14-16: Spanish American War, Westward Expansion, Korean War, Boxer Rebellion

Bible We memorized until Philippians 2:11 these two weeks. History We learnt about  Ethiopia&Italy(Liberia), Alexander Bell, Brazil, Spanish-American War,  Westward Expansion, Factories Stocks Carnegie, Sino-Jap War in Korea,  Boxer Rebellion(China), Panama Canal, Czar Alexander (Russia), and Czar Nicholas II(Russia).  We also learnt about President Theodore Roosevelt, which the children found his life very interesting. Science For Science, we learnt about sounds, and machines. Language and Math We continue with language arts and Math. Read A-louds This week we continued reading On the Banks of Plum Creek and Hudson Taylor (not as a read-aloud). Art This is to imitate Hokusai "The Great Wave".  For O-o Octopus, we did a salt resistant painting, which we really enjoyed the results. For W-w Water we drew Monet's Water Lilies. MFW 1850-Mod Week 13: Irish Potato Plague, Boers, Africa

Bible We memorized Philippians 2:1-3 this week. History We learnt about the Irish potato plague, scrambling for Africa, and the Boers and British. And we made Irish Boxty (potato pancakes). They are good!! Science For Science, we learnt about crystals and we will do the crystal experiment with Big Bro in the next few weeks. We watched a video on the Giant's Courseway in Ireland, tying perfectly with Ireland AND crystals. Language and Math We continue with language arts and Math. Read A-louds This week we started reading On the Banks of Plum Creek and Hudson Taylor. Art Since Baby Sis is learning about dinosaurs, we did some dinosaurs drawing. Also, this year, for Advent, we are reading Ann VosKamp's The Wonder of the Greatest Gift We enjoy it a lot.
