MFW ECC Wk 1-2 (Introduction)

Plan and Pinterest Idea Box (with links)

It's such an exciting year!!! I really really look forward to doing ECC with the kids.

Here are the things we did these two weeks.

We started the first day with a GOOD breakfast. To our kids, it meant LOTS of fruit. It was a blessing that daddy took a couple hours off to start the day with us.

Overview

Bible:  John 3:16, What God is doing in the World
Geography: Maps, Continents, World, Vocab(Continent, Continent divide, ocean, ocean ridge)
Math: Weight, Review of 2 and 3 digits addition/subtraction, Multiplication
Language: Lessons 1 and 2 (ㄅㄇㄊㄗㄘㄚㄠㄢ), Revision of cursive alphabet
Science: Ecosystems, niches, water cycles
Art: Children of the world, World cake(pie), Hands of the World
Books we read: Me on the Map. Maps and Mapping, Peoples of the World, Somewhere in the World Right Now,

BIBLE

Our memory verse these 2 weeks: John 3:16

John 3:16 poster.
Girl said "But I don't like them." (she meant the pictures)
I used this as a opportunity to talk about how God loves everyone even though sometimes WE don't.

We read different verses reminding us how the different languages come about and yet God is the God of all nations and He brings salvation to all.

GEOGRAPHY

Our centerpiece
Pretest.

The highlight of the week: the kids "applied" for a passport.
The joke was, we DID apply for a passport the week prior. For the baby and also renewal for Big Sis. It was a TERRIBLE experience. For we had to go to THREE post office and ALMOST did not complete our task.

The kids enjoyed "Hello Children of the World" from Wee Sing

Continent Crossword

Continents (The continent song got REALLY stuck in us...well, it's annoying, but the younger kids remembered the continents!)

Me on the Map activity

Big Bro's room

Big Sis' room

We learnt about Grids and scales

Latitudes and Longitudes
Different types of maps, including our local maps
I drew the maps for him to fill in.

Drawing the world map from 7 ovals (can't find the link where I got the idea)

The World "pie" (instead of cake). We were wanting to try this new recipe we found and so I'm using it for the world cake idea.
And since I didn't want to use coloring. I googled and tried (and turned into a little Science experiment) the natural blue and green dyes.

We learnt 4 Geog vocabulary words this week

And Little Sister made the Hands of the World Art.

Of course, there needs to be glitter, rings and bracelets. =)

LANGUAGE

We started with BoPoMoFo. VERY good decision. The kids love it!
I made two books for the 10 sounds they learnt
Download them here: Cat and Breakfast, Baby Closes Eyes

And we're back with gentle PLL. =)

MATH

Struggling to get back on track. Had too little practice in summer.
And flash cards are good.

SCIENCE

We learnt about ecosystems, niches, biomes, and we did some looking around our apartment complexes. At trees, at ants, at soil, ...

This year we tried to let him to some "self work" after "school time". Usually he would do it during quiet time (nap time for baby) on his own. Usually it's some kind of reading, and/or Math, Complete Book of Animals (He LOVES this book!)

ART

Tried to make "children of the world".

These stickers are for ideas

Each child did 4, and we pieced them together.
