Some interesting side notes of our lives. We have been trying to spend the Saturdays doing car rides. To visit the five boroughs of NYC. Last week we went to Manhattan. This we went to Brooklyn and saw the first roller coaster, the Cyclone. I also started diamond painting with my girls. Big Sis finished her cross-stitch. She did a wonderful job! Last week we had our first communion at home. Bible We read Luke on John's and Jesus' births. This video from the Bible Project is very helpful History This week we went back to Roman history, after a detour to the Roman life. We learnt about Augustus Caesar, Tiberius, and the Judio-Claudian kings. The Roman lands by the death of Augustus We talked about the five emperors during Pax Romana and made this page. Some of these postcards are just hilarious. We wrote more articles and read some chapters from the Augustus Caesar's World We learnt about some more latin words and the girls found it amusing that my name Ann Su is just a scram...

Larger Families have our issues. One we faced was we never get to go bike-riding as a family. Well....this changed today. Our friends gave me a bike, lent hubby one +rooftop bike racks and we bought baby carrier online. Therefore, we went family cycling at Flushing Meadows Park. We love to do things early. We left home at 8:30am and the park was nice and not crowded at all. It was a really fun experience. On our way back, our children got a nice surprise! NYC provided free school-style lunch for everyone under 18 years old all summer long.  Then we popped by to the nearby Hall of Science. Thanks to ID NYC, we have a free year of membership. I have to remind myself to put this in the calendar more when the other children go back to school. The exhibit, " Connected Worlds ", is very cool and interactive!

The best of our week was the subway lapbook. It's our first and I think it's very successful! The components: *Subway numbers - laminate the subways and you can use dry-erase markers to draw people, windows, wheels in according to the numbers. OR, like my son did, you can arrange them *Subway book - Ian LOVES to draw subways *Subway letters - Match the correct beginning sounds. You can add more pictures according to your child's level and interest *Map  *We have a slot for the Metrocard * I pinned up a sheet on the board and whenever Ian thinks of a word that begins with S we write it down. He thought of all the words himself! It's fun to hear him running in from the balcony and shouted a word he happened to think of Even though S is for Sun in this unit, S is for the favorite thing in Ian's life...SUBWAYS... Such a city kid. Talking about cities...because we live in the city, we can't do the sundial or some other nature things...but I guess th...

PreK was fun, but Kindergarten is going to be a blast. I know it just by planning. We're using My Father's World : A to Z Kindergarten curriculum. (plus a couple more supplements) but because I really want my kid to learn more, but because he already knows and writes the entire alphabet and most letter sounds. Also I have a almost 3 yr old tagging along. Erica (Confessions of a Homeschooler) has the COOLEST letter-of-the-week curriculum! I love her graphics! She has lots of free printables or you can buy it a very reasonable price. My Father's World users has a great network of resources out there...the yahoo group, blogrolls...etc. They gave me so many wonderful ideas!! Thank you guys!
