1st Grade, Rome to Reformation Week 17: Charlemagne, Celtic tribes and spread of Christianity, plagues and red sea, Urinary System

BIBLE We memorized 1 Cor 12:4-5 We continued to read on Luke and the life of Jesus. We also read the stories of Charlemagne, Patrick and Pope Gregory I For Lil Sis, she read about the story of Moses HISTORY We learnt about Charlemagne, the Celtic Tribes, history of the British Isles and how Christianity spread there by Augustine of Canterbury LANGUAGE The older kids continued on Rod and Staff English. Lil Sis worked on her phonics, bible books and bible notebook The older two did test for Chapter 1-5 and started Lesson 7  康軒一下  for Mandarin Chinese We learnt two more Latin words "magnus" and "prae" this week.  We did Spelling Power. MATH Lil Sis continued to work on Singapore Math 1B and practiced hard on her reading SCIENCE We learnt about the urinary system The urethra The kidneys These videos were so good! ART We did not do

1st Grade, Rome to Reformation Week 16: Barbarians, Islamic Invasions, the Heart, Moses

BIBLE We continued to memorize 1 Cor 12:1-3 We continued to read on Luke and the life of Jesus. We also read the story of Boniface (Trials and Triumphs) For Lil Sis, she read about the story of Moses HISTORY We learnt about Clovis, the Barbarians, Frankish kingdoms and Charles We finished Twice Freed. LANGUAGE The older kids continued on Rod and Staff English. Lil Sis worked on her phonics, bible books and bible notebook The older two finished up Lesson 6  康軒一下  for Mandarin Chinese We learnt two more Latin words "nominis. nomen" and "pro" this week.  We did Spelling Power. MATH Lil Sis started Singapore Math 1B and she was so excited! SCIENCE We learnt about the circulatory system and had a fun week learning about the heart. It took Mommy a while but finally understood about the system The kids had a BLAST feeling their pulse and tracking their heartbeat.

1st Grade, Rome to Reformation Week 15: Muhammad, Muslims and the Islamic Empire, Joseph

BIBLE We continued to memorize 1 Cor 12:1-3 Lil Sis memorized Pr 16:24 Kind words are like honey—     sweet to the soul and healthy for the body We continued to read on Luke and the life of Jesus. We also read about the facts of Muslims and prayed for them. For Lil Sis, she read about the story of Joseph HISTORY We learnt about Muhammad, the Islam religion and the Islamic Empire We continued on Twice Freed. LANGUAGE The older kids continued on Rod and Staff English. Lil Sis worked on her phonics, bible books and bible notebook The older two continued on Lesson 6  康軒一下  for Mandarin Chinese and Lil Sis practiced more of her bopomofo We learnt two more Latin words "discipulus" and "verbum" this week. And we also did a review "test" on the vocabulary words, thanks to mom who generously shared her resource on the facebook group. We did Spelling Power. MATH Lil Sis

1st Grade, Rome to Reformation Week 14: Byzantine Empire, Lungs, Isaac, Jacob

BIBLE We memorized 1 Cor 12:1-3 Lil Sis memorized Pr 14:30 A peaceful heart gives life to the body.     But jealousy rots the bones. We read on Luke and the life of Jesus For Lil Sis, she read about the story of Isaac and Jacob We also read from "Picture That!" Bible She started writing the summary of the story. HISTORY We learnt about the Byzantine Empire, Justinian and Empress Theodora We continued on Twice Freed. LANGUAGE The older kids continued on Rod and Staff English. Lil Sis worked on her phonics, bible books and bible notebook The older two started Lesson 6  康軒一下  for Mandarin Chinese and Lil Sis practiced more of her bopomofo We learnt two more Latin words "sonus" and "video" this week. We did Spelling Power. MATH Lil Sis continued to do worksheets on subtraction. She is getting independent on her Daily Calendar. SCIENCE

1st Grade, Rome to Reformation Week 13: Constantine, Nicene Creed, Digestive System, Tower of Babel, Abraham

BIBLE We memorized Rom 12:1-6 Lil Sis memorized Pr 12:18 The words of the thoughtless cut like swords, but the tongue of the wise brings healing. We finished up Revelations and read some stories from Trials and Triumphs together with History. We also learnt about the Nicene Creed. For Lil Sis, she read the Tower of Babel story and the story of Abraham. HISTORY We learnt about Constantine and how the Roman Empire became Christian. Our children really literally breathed a sigh of relief when they heard that Christians were no longer persecuted. However, I could see that they were unsure about the wealth that was poured upon the Christians by Constantine. We also read about Athanasius, Ambrose and Augustine. Finally we listened to Story of the World about the Fall of Rome and how the tribes invaded. We continued on Twice Freed. To end off the study of Romans, we TRIED to have a Roman Feast.
