Audiobooks on the road

We have tried audiobooks with the children when they were younger and it did not work, especially in the car, on the highway. It was too noisy for them to actually understand what was being read. This time to our Maine trip, we tried it again and I was so surprised by how much they (and us) like them! We borrowed ours from the library (electronically, so we didn't even have to step out of our house to do so) so they are free! There are also some books that you can get for  free  online. This time this  book  was our favorite. A.A. Milne wrote a delightful book about THE bear. The performers were so talented and we enjoyed every bit of the British accent. =) We actually finished the whole book (and repeated some chapters). Our trip took us 12 hours to and fro and also some many hours in between when we go on day trips. We finished Winnie-the-Pooh,  The house at Pooh Corner ,  Cricket at Times Square , parts of  Fancy Nancy  and almost the wh...

This'N'That World Pie

We decided not to make the world cake. Just because there is this recipe Ian found in this book that he was very interested in. This series are wonderful, by the way. You probably don't find many books with homeschoolers and this series makes my boy feel normal. Hey! It's written in books! It must be right, right? =) So, here goes it.  First we made the butterscotch pudding from scratch. Not a fan of the yellow #5 or 6 pudding mixes. Recipe here . This recipe is delicious! Next my very wonderful helper helped with her handy hammer to crust the graham crackers Add with melted butter and press into pan. Freeze. Next layer. Here goes powdered sugar. Cool whip Cream cheese Beat them. Not the kids, the ingredients. Spread the cream cheese/cool whip mixture on the graham layer. Pudding layer. Oops, a bit bloppy. Frost with cool whip. I'm VERY VERY stingy with the coloring. Our world pie! (Boy says, don't...

Summer Reading

Ian has been doing quite well for his summer reading and we're expecting more. There are some books that I didn't particularly like (like the Toy Story ones) but there are some I found absolutely delightful! Like the Moody Family Series (Ian REALLY liked them too) so we're getting them used on Amazon with the free amazon cards we got with Swagbucks. And I liked A.A. Milne's Winnie the Pooh quite a lot too. =) Here is his growing list of books . And Colleen is doing quite well too. She is reading the Berenstain Bears and First Little House books. Her list is here

T-Turtle Unit Part 2

Some extra things I thought interesting to share. 1. Extra books We found these Little House on the Prairie books that we like in the library! They are a nice find. 2.One morning I had to put the youngest baby down for nap. So I asked the brother and the sister to do the morning board on their own since they have been doing it for a while already. They were drawing and playing then. It was a real surprise to hear the brother say (after some minutes that I was in) "Come, Colleen, let's do school" and they did up the morning board all by themselves! so proud of them. (besides the mistake of "4+1" they did a great job!) 3.Our dear boy turned 5 today. It was soooo wonderful to have him in our lives and he is the pride and joy of his parents! 4. So a review on this " Pretend and Play Snack Shop " toy we bought him. It is WONDERFUL!!! You really get to learn A LOT of things!! (and our boy REALLY likes to open a "shop") Math, social skills...
