We used two weeks over Christmas and New Year to finish week 16. But with illnesses in the family and all, we didn't do that much. SCIENCE Cold air shrinks (we didn't get to do hot air expands, but we did do the pingpong trick before) Hot air rises, cold air sinks (didn't work very well) Rhode Island This is a great book, easy to finish within 10 mins.   Vermont God helped us to HAPPEN to have a bottle of VT maple syrup. So cool.   And we watched videos of how maple syrup is made and also a video of Franklin (the turtle) and maple syrup. Fun.   This is a WONDERFUL book! Esp for Ian who is learning to use the camera. DANIEL BOONE We found the lapbook here and really appreciate it!     Really like the idea of Immanuel from this. We memorized the verse well and it was so fitting right after Christmas to memorize this.

  How much earthworms a robin (CT state bird) eats a day. 14 feet!   I love the different discussion on the bible verse, John 14:16 (Jesus is the way) This one is of us finding different ways to get to different places.   4 pennies. How heavy a chickadee is (MA state bird) We were surprised!   Tried the Farmer Boy's Popcorn in milk experiment (put a cup full of popcorn in a cup full of milk and it will not spill over)   Well, it didn't QUITE work...I don't know if because we put TOO much milk or is it because our floor is not even. Oh well. But it tasted nice! =) We can't get past Farmer Boy...it's not easy to read...or to keep his attention. Our last week of school before we take a break, slightly more than a month, in anticipation of our 4th child. She should arrive anytime and I'll take a nice month-long recuperation, eating all the good food, herbal concoctions and simply resting. Have printed a stack of Math worksheets for them to work on when they get bored during this time. And I guess they can continue their reading too. Other than that, we'll have fun in the "Home Economics" subject.   Since I'm not an American citizen, learning about the birth of this country has been very very fascinating for me! All new information and some really encouraged me. I felt that every citizen of their own country should really familiarize themselves with how their country come about. It was not an easy road and many had to sacrifice for what this country is today. We should be grateful.   He remembered the liberty bell (from the stamp collection) which his granddad pasted on one of his books. We star...

    This is a fun lapbook to do which was free (I didn't let him do a lot but it's nice enough)     Books we borrowed...only read "Four seasons" and "A picture book" (I realize this is a MUST borrow book for the series...it's really good and easy to let the child remember the facts) We didn't have Sarah Whitcher's story and can't find in library...so we skipped that. Should have read more of boxcar children this week...but we were not as disciplined...

I know it sounds like we're having too much fun around here...(we're only having 3 days of school this week)...we did finish all the readings and most of the work. Tomorrow we'll be on vacation to great friend family's home.   This week we are learning about Jesus being the Rock. (Matt 7:24)   Found some great extra worksheets on Benjamin Franklin   Math: we used this manipulative and it works really well!   Benjamin Franklin's notebook   We really like the picture book of Benjamin Franklin. And we finished the Courage of Sarah Noble this week! It's a great book!!

I would say this was the highlight of this week. The experiment was fun and the kids were very amused to find the balloon getting bigger. We didn't have time to do the 2nd part of the experiment, but perhaps we'll do it this weekend. The Courage of Sarah Noble is a good read. And we read quite a bit of American Pioneers and Patriots on New Amsterdam, important for us, since it is New York City. And we read a couple "questions" of the "If you lived in Colonial Times" book every day. Memory verse of the week. I really like how MFW teaches on the different verse on bread this week, leading to Jesus being the bread of life. Next week we'll bake the bread, make butter and do the bread napkin holders. MATH We practiced two digit addition with carry-over this week. Quite a concept to grasp so we practiced quite a bit. SPELLING We are on lesson 6, which is a review of lessons 1-5.   The A Day in a Pilgrim girl/boy books are quite interesting because of their pictures. Of course, we always like the Little House books.   This was quite fun for the kids to see!   We started English Language this week. I do like the ease of the Primary Language Lessons.   Retelling of the Pilgrims story Bible Besides these, we read a lot of bible verses of Jesus being the light and us too (I like the verses and explanations by MFW) Science We read on the stars and the Big Dipper. Next week we'll be on vacation and I REALLY hope one night I can bring my boy out to see the big dipper. Math We continue to do Singapore Math. I try to go a little slower and add more practice for him on my own to make sure he masters one before the next. Spelling He REALLY likes Spelling by Structure and Sound. I think we got the pattern down and he can do an independent work on it. Quite cool to see! AND...we finished Squanto !! I like it that MFW puts in the ...
