Much that I really wanted to keep up with the blog for the year, it did not work out. With my dad passing in October, and the COVID quarantine in 2020, I was thankful we finished school! The blog was not able to record down many good stuff we did this year. I actually was very proud of how we did, and how much effort I (and the girls) put in this year! This was the plan I did in the beginning of the year. Some of the memories and things I enjoyed were... 1. A different way to teach history/bible This year I decided I would prepare the teaching more. Last time we did CtG, we read through Streams, the encyclopedia, etc, like all good Charlotte Masoners would with living books. The kids did not understand much and retained almost nothing. Maybe I wasn't doing it right, and maybe they were rather young then. This year I used presentation to give them some visual aids as I taught or read. This was an example. This week we learnt about... ...mummies and the process of mummification ...The great pyramids ...memorizing the Old Testament books Bible We memorized the old testament books this week. English from the Roots Up Until now we have learnt these words (using the quizlet app) biblios photos graph tele metron sauros History This was an interesting history week! We learnt about the mummies and played a fun interactive game . and we made mummies hot dogs! =) (using crescent dough) We learnt about the Great Pyramids. We used sugar cubes to build a pyramid We drew pyramids using the 1 or 2 pt perspective . And we drew King Tut. We also watched the really interesting videos on King Tut's tomb . These two weeks for Bible/History we learnt about... ...the dispersion after the flood ...Ice Age, tower of babel ...Fertile Crescent (Ancient Mesopotamia) ...Unification of Egypt ...Life in Ancient Egypt and the Nile Bible We memorized the books of Old Testament (not all yet) We used this song (from Wee Sing) to help us as well. The Bentley Brothers always added lots of fun and laughter in our study of bible books. I wish they had songs on more books though. This year I took time to read (taking turns) a verse from each book, I think it helped with flipping to the book. My pastor taught us a real cool mnemonic for the minor prophets which I have been teaching the kids. We finished week 2! This week, we learnt about... Bible ...Adam and Eve ...Cain and Abel ...Noah ...the Flood Culture ...the Jewish calendar Science ...light The girls made notebook pages on the computer for their bible and history lessons. This is an example of what Big Sis did. We made animal crackers And Lil Sis played with the Noah toyset We measured the ark downstairs, while it was raining! =) And we watched many good videos about the flood at this website We found where Turkey is and we drew the bible map Science This was one experiment we did on light and reflection White paper reflected most light Black absorbed most of the light Red reflect red light Big Sis did some experiments in General Science as well. She learnt about atoms and density. She learnt that atoms move faster in hotter temperature And she learnt about how solutions give off different substance. This was our favorite experiment....
