2020-2021 Rome to Reformation Week 20

  Bible/History We started to memorize the Philippians verses. And we learnt about Saladin, El Cid, and the Magna Carta We did this page for the lapbook And we made arrows for Robin Hood. Science We are on to Astronomy!! =) This is introduction week. We are going to do a lapbook for this unit. The differences between planets, stars, and meteors. As usual the girls LOVE the mnemonic of the planets. The astronomers lapbook component. I'm rather proud of this page that I made, with help from here . There are other astronomy worksheets from the site that are good, especially for younger kids. This year's unit I used many good resources from the NASA page . This is one of them. I made the lapbook components myself though. Foreign Language We had a week of review games. So fun! Other things Yes. You got it. Our littlest embarked on his "diaper-free" journey!! whoo! Rome to Reformation Week 19

 This week we learnt about the church, pilgrimage, pope, and the crusades. The girls made pilgrimage badges. I asked them to imagine 2020 as a pilgrimage. What did they learn, or want to remember on this journey. Big Sis remembers that God never changes, Lil Sis remembers the gift of friends, and Baby Sis remembers the provision of food for us. For Science, we finished our human body model! The last system was the urinary system. And it was really apt to learn this because Wee Bro started a little of his potty training this week. Haha... We also continued to read The Princess and The Goblin.

Rome to Reformation 2020-2021 Week 18

  Bible/History This week we learnt about life in the Medieval castle, the knights, arts, and the beginning of church history. This was a fun page we made from Project Passport . We learnt about the coat of arms and the code of chivalry This was another fun lapbook component to make We made catapults! And stained glass windows. I wish we have colored sharpies (they work so much better). These videos on the knighthood are REALLY good. We took a break from Science this week. But we did more practice on our Mandarin words. We also continued to read from The Princess and the Goblins Grade 8 Big Sis learnt about transcription this week. 

2020-2021 Rome to Reformation Week 16/17

 We had two weeks break. First we went to Maine for a really nice relaxing family vacation. Then we took another week off. This week, we are back! =) Bible We continue to memorize 1 Cor 13:1-8. We also did the readings on Luke. History This week we learnt about monasteries, the vikings, and life in medieval towns. I added in Project Passport: The Middle Ages (Stop #4,6,8, 16, 20, and 21). The illumination pages are really fun to do! We wrote newspaper articles and advertisements. We did lapbook components We learnt about the town and the feudal system. We also learnt to play Nine Men Morris. We started reading "The Princess and the Goblin" by George MacDonald. It is quite interesting! Science We finished up the lungs model and learnt about immunity as well as a little on genes. Every week we still take a walk around our neighborhood and we spot differences in the surroundings.
