Graduation Kindergarten

Girl has graduated Kindergarten. (She is a year early because she's a January baby) She has learnt SOOOOO much this year! We went through My Fathers' World Kindergarten with her and she went through a year of fun alphabet unit study. This year, the greatest achievement has got to be SHE LEARNT TO READ! She completed this book AFTER the MFW materials were done. Books Girl has read on her own. She is reading almost at a first grade level (not quite) and definitely her Math is at the 1st grade level. She can do addition easily (up to 20) and some easy subtraction. She knows numbers up to 100. In addition, because of her brother, she learnt most of the states and even memorized the verses he was doing for the names of Jesus. I'm very very proud of her. Because besides academic achievement, she has grown in her patience (she has always been the most patient), initiative in learning and responsibility. She takes good care of her sister AND baby sister and she i...

Graduation 2nd Grade

We started school on July 16th 2012, took a month off for Baby Sister's birth and rest and we completed the school year on May 10th 2013. This year we tackled 2nd Grade and IT. WAS. A. BLAST. This is for breakfast today. We're eating America. =) This is for a little celebration (layered Strawberry crumb cake with cream cheese frosting) BIBLE This is what I appreciate most about MFW. I REALLY, REALLY love the bible component. We learnt about the names of Jesus and memorized 15 verses VERY well at heart. Because we put the verses under the table plastic (since halfway through the school year we "lost" our board), the kids get to revise the verses EVERY TIME they were at the table (which is A LOT of the day). Even the girls memorized most of the verses! Near the end of the year, I used the Fighter Verse App that I got for myself (I LOVE THIS APP!) to put in these verses for boy to practice. He had so much fun with it he asked me to put in extra v...

MFW K, Adventures week 30: TRancontinental railroad, CO

Girl has finished K materials, so we do phonics, Math and reading. Now she is reading Cat in the Hat. My hope is that she read more fluently for summer and ready for 1st grade. For Adventures, we started Grandma's Attic and I like it a lot more than Mountain Born because it's easier to read and quite a fun book!

MFW K 2013: Y-Yellow Adventures Week 29: KS, WV,NV,NE

It's the last week for the curriculum and the last time we sing the A-apple song until the next one goes to K! Color by numbers Yarn PRESCHOOL: Mickey Mouse Clubhouse preschool pack (FUN!)         And we read a very nice Chinese book from Auntie J.   And we drew the Rainbow   Read Mouse Paint (another great book!) and did color mixing. The girls had a lot of fun with it. Flower color book. And the big girl is reading! This is a great book for her. Adventures We learnt about KS, WV, NV and NE. Read some books on those states and also talked about magnet. The boy loves the idea. We did not get the magnet kit.

MFW K 2013: Q-q Quail, Adventures week 28

For Q-quail, there isn't a lot of special work, but we read quite a bit. The girl can read now! =) These are the books she was working on. For Adventures we learnt about the Civil War and we also did all the drills of everyday work - Spelling, Language, Math, Science, reading (We started on Mountain Born and the chapters can be a bit tough for boy) And we did Science. Seems like a lot of balloon expanding recently.

Resurrection Cookies

This year we decided to do something for Easter. I thought this project was pretty cool. We got the idea from the MFW TM (Adventures) and also from this website . First, the ingredients . You will need: 1 cup whole pecans (we used raw peanuts that we roasted on stove) 1 teaspoon vinegar 3 egg whites a pinch salt 1 cup sugar a zipper baggy 1 wooden spoon scotch tape Bible Preheat oven to 200F (I followed MFW TM and not the site) Ian was our bible reader 1. Jesus was beaten Place nuts in zipper baggy and let children beat them with the wooden spoon to break into small pieces.  Explain that after Jesus was arrested.  He was beaten by the Roman soldiers.  Read: John 19:1-3 The kids had the most kick out of this. Until the last step, someone was still having a go at the poor nuts. 2. Jesus was given vinegar Let each child smell the vinegar.  Put 1 teaspoon vinegar into mixing bowl. Explain that when Jesus wa...
