2020-2021 Rome to Reformation Week 12

We had a good break in the countryside last week!

This week we moved on to the Middle Ages.

Bible

We are starting to memorize 1 Cor 13. I also started to do my devotions on the same book. I have learnt a lot.

We also are reading through Luke and the life of Jesus.

History

For the Middle Ages, I will choose some projects from Project Passport: Middle Ages to do. However, mostly, we're following the schedule from MFW (mainly Story of the World vol. 2)

This week we reviewed the fall of Rome and how the empire split into east and west.

We learnt about Justinian. This is a page we did on the Code of Justinian.
This is an example of the powerpoint slide I used to teach the girls (mostly using the materials from Streams of Civilization)

We learnt about the Byzantine Culture, and Hagia Sofia. The icon mosaic art is an attempt to combine the arts learnt in this period.

We thought listening to singing in the Hagia Sopia was an interesting thing.
This video on the Byzantine mosaic was really fun too!

Science

We finished learning about muscles and made a model to show it.
This week we reviewed the bones and muscles and the girls had an unit test (Masterbooks).

We also continued to read Twice Freed and we're about two weeks to completion.

8th Grader

Big Sis did a research on the biome of NYC

Online Resources: Sesame Street Games

I love the Sesame Street Games ...I think they are the best for preschoolers. They teach important concepts, at the same time, making computer skills real easy. For eg, there is no "click and drag"...that's hard for them...there's "click" "move" "click". There are some games Ian really likes...(click on photo for the games) That's the Wheels on the Bus song (you press the keys foe interactive movements) Patterns. Seasons. Fun for the kids. Walking the dogs...numbers. This is alltime favorite. First you make a pitcher of lemonade. Then depending on how many monsters come, you click however many cups. I love it!

Science 2015/2016: Human Body Recap

We really had fun learning about the Human Body this year. I thought it would be meaningful to consolidate our learning. We enjoyed the Body Book more than I thought we would. I did do most of the cutting though. We also enjoyed the different videos we watched and the experiments. I think this is the most successful science year yet.
