2020-2021 Rome to Reformation Week 14-15

These two weeks we have been busy. And I really forgot I did not blog! =)

These are the things we did.

Bible

We memorized 1 Cor 1-3, 4-5

We were learning about Islam and the girls had some questions. We were so blessed that one of our friends did his dissertation in Islam studies and he was a missionary in India to the Muslims for many years. He zoomed us one day and answered our questions. It was an interesting experience.

History

We learnt about the Islamic invasion and the barbaric invasion.

We learnt about Clovis and the Franks, and the Carolingian dynasty.

We also learnt about Charlemagne, the celtic tribes of Britain and how Christianity started to take place in the western Roman world as well.

I added in some teaching from Project Passport: Middle Ages (Stop #3).

For these two weeks I mostly taught from Streams of Civilization and the girls listened to Story of the World.

We finished Twice Freed.

The girls colored the Book of Kells.

Science

We learnt about the circulatory and respiratory systems.

Art

For the weeks when we did not have art projects, I did picture study (with the focus on Renaissance artists) with the girls. These few weeks we focused on Leonardo Da Vinci.

We looked at the Annunciation and St. John the Baptist.

Online Resources: Sesame Street Games

I love the Sesame Street Games ...I think they are the best for preschoolers. They teach important concepts, at the same time, making computer skills real easy. For eg, there is no "click and drag"...that's hard for them...there's "click" "move" "click". There are some games Ian really likes...(click on photo for the games) That's the Wheels on the Bus song (you press the keys foe interactive movements) Patterns. Seasons. Fun for the kids. Walking the dogs...numbers. This is alltime favorite. First you make a pitcher of lemonade. Then depending on how many monsters come, you click however many cups. I love it!

Science 2015/2016: Human Body Recap

We really had fun learning about the Human Body this year. I thought it would be meaningful to consolidate our learning. We enjoyed the Body Book more than I thought we would. I did do most of the cutting though. We also enjoyed the different videos we watched and the experiments. I think this is the most successful science year yet.
