MFW CtG/K Week 9:T-t Turtle/Jacob leaving Laban, Descendants, Joseph

4th/2nd Grade Creation to the Greeks

Ten Commandments:

I am the LORD your God...you shall have no other gods before me.
You shall not make for yourself an idol.
You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain
Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy

Bible/History

  • Discussed and memorized the 4th commandment and revised the past memory verses.
  • We learnt about Jacob's family, and Joseph's story
  • We also talked about cloaks, Ancient Egyptian's homes and Abraham's descendants

Math/Science

  • Water and Air: Destroying water

This experiments requires dissolving different amounts of epsom salt in water and see how water molecule is destroyed.
This experiment also teaches me about reading the instructions carefully. At first we put 1/4 CUP (instead of teaspooon) of salt in one and 3/4 CUP in another. NO WAY this will dissolve. We'll be making crystals.

Now this is better

No salt, no reaction.

1/4 tsp salt, little bubbles

3/4 tsp salt, a lot of bubbles

Language

  • We continued to work on nouns.
  • Spelling Power for Big Bro
  • Spelling by Sight and Structure for Big Sis
  • We also learnt the Greek word "phobos" and did our English from the Roots Up notebook page. We also revised the past words.
  • We continued Treasures of the Snow (Another great book!)

Foreign Language

We finished Lesson 2 on åº·è»’一上. The kids are retaining a lot of words!

Art/Music

This is mommy's painting

Quite a number of things were happening this week and we slacked on art and Science. But we did do the Vivaldi's Autumn painting (I asked them to paint this time)

Have you wondered?
  • Laban was angry Jacob stole his idols. In the end Rachel was the one to steal them. WHAT's UP with God's people having idols!!?? Big Bro thinks Rachel stole them so that her father will not worship them anymore

Online Resources: Sesame Street Games

I love the Sesame Street Games ...I think they are the best for preschoolers. They teach important concepts, at the same time, making computer skills real easy. For eg, there is no "click and drag"...that's hard for them...there's "click" "move" "click". There are some games Ian really likes...(click on photo for the games) That's the Wheels on the Bus song (you press the keys foe interactive movements) Patterns. Seasons. Fun for the kids. Walking the dogs...numbers. This is alltime favorite. First you make a pitcher of lemonade. Then depending on how many monsters come, you click however many cups. I love it!

I did do most of the cutting though. We also enjoyed the different videos we watched and the experiments. I think this is the most successful science year yet.
