2020-2021 Rome to Reformation Week 3

Bible
This week we learnt more about how the bible came to us. And we started to memorize the New Testament books.

History
We learnt about Julius Caesar this week. (A Big Week! ) =)

We drew some postcards

Here's an updated map of Rome by 44 B.C.

We wrote more newspaper articles.

We then went on to learn about the daily life of the Romans.
We watched a number of videos on the life of the Romans. They were really fun!

These pages from Project Passport (Ancient Rome) are really fun!

For the newspaper, there are some ad pages which are really interesting

We did a "recline and dine" guide and we might use some ideas for our Roman meal in a couple weeks.

We added more to the snapshots

We made a Roman home page.

We continued the reading of Bronze Bow.

Art
We were going to do a laurel wreath art, but I think I would make a wreath pattern on a pie instead, one day.

Science
We learnt more about the brains, nerves, and reflexes.

We did an experiment to see how the hypothalamus regulates temperature in us.

Language
The girls started Spelling Power this week.
They continued on their Rod and Staff English
We learn more Chinese. I made cards with the words so that we can use them as games.

8th Grade
For Biology, Big Sis learnt about water and did an experiment on hydrogen bonds.
I think she is learning quite a lot from the Masterbooks.
Her first Algebra I test.

The kids finished the Microsoft Excel class with dad. He is such a creative dad!! =) Now onto Powerpoint.

One morning the tike woke at 5 am and was cranky the whole morning. Finally he fell asleep on me during school. He has dropped his morning nap a long time back. =) I haven't held him to nap for a LONG TIME. This is homeschooling for real.

Online Resources: Sesame Street Games

I love the Sesame Street Games ...I think they are the best for preschoolers. They teach important concepts, at the same time, making computer skills real easy. For eg, there is no "click and drag"...that's hard for them...there's "click" "move" "click". There are some games Ian really likes...(click on photo for the games) That's the Wheels on the Bus song (you press the keys foe interactive movements) Patterns. Seasons. Fun for the kids. Walking the dogs...numbers. This is alltime favorite. First you make a pitcher of lemonade. Then depending on how many monsters come, you click however many cups. I love it!

Science 2015/2016: Human Body Recap

We really had fun learning about the Human Body this year. I thought it would be meaningful to consolidate our learning. We enjoyed the Body Book more than I thought we would. I did do most of the cutting though. We also enjoyed the different videos we watched and the experiments. I think this is the most successful science year yet.
