Rome to Reformation Year Plan 2020-2021

This school year is special.
First, we ventured into different curriculum, while keeping My Father's World as the spine. Also, more importantly, it is the first year we are doing some kind of spontaneous schooling. Well, as spontaneous as this crazy control-freakish mom can take.
Because of COVID and the quarantine, we figured we might as well start school, then take breaks when we can.

We took May off, and here we are, June 1st. And we embarked on our journey to Ancient Rome.

The last time we did RtR, I had a 1st, 3rd, 5th graders, and a little tag-along. This year we have a 3rd, 6th, 8th grader. And we have another littler tag-along. =)

Here is the plan this year.

HISTORY/BIBLE

MFW is still our spine even though we are using some new materials.

This is one BIG new change. I REALLY like this curriculum when I looked at it. Because I'm having all girls this year, and they all love cutting, pasting, coloring, I think this curriculum will be a great hit.

We will still add in some readings or projects from RtR whenever applicable.

For middle ages, I will also use
but in a different way. We will follow the schedule in RtR, which is mostly Story of the World: Vol 2

I like the audiobook by Jim Weiss, so we may listen to it.
I will use Project Passport: Middle Ages to fit into the schedule, instead of the other way around for Ancient Rome.

As for Reformation/Renaissance part, we will follow the MFW schedule.

SCIENCE
For Lil Sis and Baby Sis, we will be using Masterbooks God's Design for Life: The Human Body (section)
God's Design for Life Set (MB Edition) as the spine.
but we will still use other books recommended by MFW especially the human body model, which I REALLY loved from the last time.

We will use Apologia's Astronomy for the second part.

Big Sis is doing Biology from Masterbooks this year.

MATH
The little ones continue with Singapore Math and Big Sis is doing Algebra I

LANGUAGE
Everyone continues with Rod and Staff English (3,6,8).

Big Sis will also finish up Writing with Skill Level 1

Lil Sis and Baby Sis will do Spelling Power and everyone will do English from the Roots Up: Latin roots.

FOREIGN LANGUAGE
Lil Sis and Baby Sis will do duolingo Mandarin (with worksheets and teaching from me)

Big Sis will finish up Integrated Chinese with Big Bro
ART
We will do different art projects that  coincides with that week's school. For the 2nd half of the year, we might do picture study on art pieces by artists of the Renaissance.

Online Resources: Sesame Street Games

I love the Sesame Street Games ...I think they are the best for preschoolers. They teach important concepts, at the same time, making computer skills real easy. For eg, there is no "click and drag"...that's hard for them...there's "click" "move" "click". There are some games Ian really likes...(click on photo for the games) That's the Wheels on the Bus song (you press the keys foe interactive movements) Patterns. Seasons. Fun for the kids. Walking the dogs...numbers. This is alltime favorite. First you make a pitcher of lemonade. Then depending on how many monsters come, you click however many cups. I love it!

Science 2015/2016: Human Body Recap

We really had fun learning about the Human Body this year. I thought it would be meaningful to consolidate our learning. We enjoyed the Body Book more than I thought we would. I did do most of the cutting though. We also enjoyed the different videos we watched and the experiments. I think this is the most successful science year yet.
