2020-2021 Rome to Reformation Week 4

Bible

We memorized the NT books.
And we played a game. I distributed the cards evenly among the girls. They take turns putting down cards in the right place.

History
We had an accidental Roman meal. We moved some things around in the house and decided to eat at the coffee table one morning. So we thought that was like a Roman meal, except, they didn't have potatoes then.

We learnt about the different entertainment the Romans had and watched some videos on the colosseum, circus maximus, etc.

We did a colosseum page.

Love the ideas of the acetate/duralar pages Project Passport has.

We learnt about the caste, how the names changed over time.

And we learnt about different jobs in Rome.

Roman Roads

We learnt about the Roman Road and watched some videos on it.
We also made a Roman Road snack. Super yummy!
Crushed rocks. (curshed oreos)

Cement with rocks (pudding with marshmallows)

Cement with sand (no sand, just sweetened whipped cream)

Stone slabs (graham crackers

This was another fun project of Project Passport for Roman roads.

We learnt about coins and taxes in Rome. This was such a fun project!

The girls designed their own coins. They are so creative

I simply love these!

These are the Roman coins. And on a side note, Big Sis made a coin just for Wee Bro today. Since he was fussy and the only way he would calm down is to "do school" with us. Big Sis would let him be the "glue-person" for her project. And she gave him the special coin. SUCH sweetness.

We learnt about the Twelve Tables (law in Rome)

We had another test on the Latin root words

Science
We learnt about the five senses and the eye this week.

And we learnt about blind spots.

Others
We continued on Spelling Power, Chinese, Math, and English.

Read-aloud
We started Galen a little earlier, because we will learn about medicine soon. Also our Bronze Bow e-book reached expiration and now it's still on reserve. It is rather frustrating to not be able to keep up with the story, but Galen is a lot easier to read and understand.

Art
We drew a chariot from Draw and Write History.

8th Grade
Big Sis did another interesting experiment for Biology this week, measuring starch content.

Baby Sis (7 years old) and Lil Sis (10 years old) made meals on different weeks. I'm so proud of them and how they are so independent in planning their meals, making them, and cleaning up!

Online Resources: Sesame Street Games

I love the Sesame Street Games ...I think they are the best for preschoolers. They teach important concepts, at the same time, making computer skills real easy. For eg, there is no "click and drag"...that's hard for them...there's "click" "move" "click". There are some games Ian really likes...(click on photo for the games) That's the Wheels on the Bus song (you press the keys foe interactive movements) Patterns. Seasons. Fun for the kids. Walking the dogs...numbers. This is alltime favorite. First you make a pitcher of lemonade. Then depending on how many monsters come, you click however many cups. I love it!

Science 2015/2016: Human Body Recap

We really had fun learning about the Human Body this year. I thought it would be meaningful to consolidate our learning. We enjoyed the Body Book more than I thought we would. I did do most of the cutting though. We also enjoyed the different videos we watched and the experiments. I think this is the most successful science year yet.
