2021-2022: Week 2

We're onto our 2nd week!

HISTORY

We learnt about Charles V, The Spanish explorers, William the Silent (Dutch), Mary Queen of Scots. I added more things onto the timeline other than the ones given by MFW.

We used IEW style to write about Charles V and William the Silent.
These are the notebook pages they did

For the Story of the World, the girls listened to the audio reading by Jim Weiss, and I made short google quizzes for them.

They also listened to this fun podcast on Mary Queen of Scots

MIDDLE SCHOOL

Lil Sis learnt about plates, volcanoes, earthquakes, and glaciers.

9TH GRADE
Big Sis started Chemistry this week! (as well as Intro to Logic)

Lab reports.

This is a fun book for Geography!

"Many maps are not accurate because they don't include Alaska and Hawaii". WHAT??!?! Big Sis has been giving us trivia and fun facts everyday. =)

And she finished "From here to Eternity" book.

We went through the process of writing an argumentative (critical) essay. She did an essay on "Choosing Life" (the topics are chosen from reading of last week)

I modified a rubric to grade her assignment.

11th GRADER

Big Bro had to do a full SAT test this week. He also started Physics and Intro to Logic.

PREPPER
He is SOOOOO intro the alphabet these days!!

I made an alphabet game from his FAVORITE video (Sesame Street Alphabet)

One day daddy was not working, wee bro spent some time with him. Then they left for an errand. I went in and saw the remainings on the bed. A book, magna doodle, his comfort blankie, a pair of socks, and a Happy Meal toy. What were they doing???

OTHER HAPPENINGS

We had guests and Baby sis made cupcakes.

After school, and throughout the day, guitar and keyboard music are what we hear very very often.

It was Singapore's National Day on August 9th!!

I made Hainanese chicken rice from this pack. I much much prefer Prima Deli packs, but these are ok too.

Then we bought food from a Malaysian restaurant. Yay for home food!

Made Taro (and plain) buns for breakfast one day.

Online Resources: Sesame Street Games

I love the Sesame Street Games ...I think they are the best for preschoolers. They teach important concepts, at the same time, making computer skills real easy. For eg, there is no "click and drag"...that's hard for them...there's "click" "move" "click". There are some games Ian really likes...(click on photo for the games) That's the Wheels on the Bus song (you press the keys foe interactive movements) Patterns. Seasons. Fun for the kids. Walking the dogs...numbers. This is alltime favorite. First you make a pitcher of lemonade. Then depending on how many monsters come, you click however many cups. I love it!

Science 2015/2016: Human Body Recap

We really had fun learning about the Human Body this year. I thought it would be meaningful to consolidate our learning. We enjoyed the Body Book more than I thought we would. I did do most of the cutting though. We also enjoyed the different videos we watched and the experiments. I think this is the most successful science year yet.
