MFW CtG/K Week 24: K-k Kangaroo, David/Solomon

4th/2nd Grade Creation to the Greeks

Psalms 1

Blessed is the man
who walks not in the counsel of the wicked,
nor stands in the way of sinners,
    nor sits in the seat of scoffers;
but his delight is in the law of the Lord,
and on his law he meditates day and night.

The wicked are not so,
but are like chaff that the wind drives away.

Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
    nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous;

Bible/History

  • We read about King David, the sad story about his sin with Bethsheba, Absalom, and also King Solomon
  • We continued on Children's Homer (and found a surprise! They talked about the brightest star, Orion's Dog and we learnt about the "dog star" (Sirious) this week! wow!
  • The kids wrote summaries of David's life.
  • And we talked about the Arabians, Queen Sheba and the countries that pay tribute to King Solomon.
  • We also watched a simulation of Solomon's Temple.

Math/Science

  • Day 4 of Creation (Sun and Moon)
  • We learnt about the eclipses, had a failed experiment (these experiments in the dim room and space doesn't work for us as well)
  • We also learnt about the stars, apparent brightness and absolute brightness.

Language

  • Rod and Staff
  • Spelling Power for Big Bro
  • Spelling by Sight and Structure for Big Sis
  • We learnt "Astro" for English from the Roots Up.
  • Cursive for Big Sis. Now that she finished her lower case letters, I used this website to create worksheets for her to practice upper case letters and words. She is doing so well!

Foreign Language

We were finishing up on Lesson 8 on 康軒一上.

And we celebrated the lunar New Year! So fun!

Art/Music

We drew objects around the house.

And we colored Durer's Stag Beetle. I showed them a picture online to copy the coloring

Have you wondered?
These are questions the kids had this week

  • What did God do before he created the world?
  • What is life like in heaven?
  • Do the astronauts see stars when they were in space?
  • How are glass jars made?
  • For this last question, we watched a video on it. =)

And while we were there we watched several other "How it's made" videos. I am sure this is not the sole privilege of homeschoolers (any family can do this) but I think if I didn't homeschool, I might not be so attuned to getting curious and interested with the kids in learning about things.

Kindergarten:K-k Kangaroo

Katy No-Pocket is always a fun watch! We got the lapbook component here

This is fun for the girl! =)

We also started reading on Hooked on Phonics, an app we got free sometime back. She is doing so well now!

And we read "McGiddycuddy Could". We also read the Penguin books which we missed last week.

And we watched Katy No-Pocket on youtube. Also the Sesame Podcast K.

Online Resources: Sesame Street Games

I love the Sesame Street Games ...I think they are the best for preschoolers. They teach important concepts, at the same time, making computer skills real easy. For eg, there is no "click and drag"...that's hard for them...there's "click" "move" "click". There are some games Ian really likes...(click on photo for the games) That's the Wheels on the Bus song (you press the keys foe interactive movements) Patterns. Seasons. Fun for the kids. Walking the dogs...numbers. This is alltime favorite. First you make a pitcher of lemonade. Then depending on how many monsters come, you click however many cups. I love it!
