MFW CtG/K Week 25: Z-z Zebra, Solomon/Elijah

4th/2nd Grade Creation to the Greeks

Psalms 1

Blessed is the man
who walks not in the counsel of the wicked,
nor stands in the way of sinners,
    nor sits in the seat of scoffers;
but his delight is in the law of the Lord,
and on his law he meditates day and night.

The wicked are not so,
but are like chaff that the wind drives away.

Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
    nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous;

for the Lord knows the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked will perish.

Bible/History

Timeline of the split of kingdoms.

This coffee stain had a very funny story. I woke up from the nap with the Baby Sis and was presented with this note:
I love my girl. =)

  • We read about King Solomon (how he turned from God when he was older). The kids were quite shocked by this. But he was wise!! They argued. Well...Mama had a serious talk to them about marrying the right person. =)
  • We finished Children's Homer Part I and went on to Part II.
  • The kids wrote summaries of Solomon's life and also Elijah's.

Math/Science

  • Day 4 of Creation (Sun and Moon)
  • We did an experiment to talk about light pollution and the stars

  • The kids enjoyed it even though I did it wrong kind of...the holes should be larger

  • We also started on Day 5 Creation (Swimmers and Flyers) and learnt about classification

Language

  • Rod and Staff (Big Bro had another test on the chapter. I do like the tests in Rod and Staff)
  • Spelling Power for Big Bro
  • Spelling by Sight and Structure for Big Sis
  • Cursive for Big Sis. Now that she finished her lower case letters, I used this website to create worksheets for her to practice upper case letters and words. She is doing so well!

Foreign Language

We finished Lesson 8 on 康軒一上.

And now we are doing some revision tests before we go on to 一下

Words they can read now

Art/Music

Painting the Stag Beetle. This is a BIG step for Big Bro (who does not like different media of art other than pens and markers). This is also a big step for mom, to tolerate some messiness.

Have you wondered?
These are questions the kids had this week

  • Why did Solomon turn from GOD?!!?!? Yes. They kept asking that.

For fun, here is how our school table/dining table looks like

Over the years we have tried boards, folders and all and to put some pertinent information under the plastic sheet on the dining table is still our best way of getting the children to remember important things, like memory verses, maps...
Books of the Bible, Ps 23

Ps 1, Cursive for Big Sis

The World Map. Just because we need to refer to them every so now and then.

For Lil Sis

Everyone has a bag behind their chair for their supplies. This is actually their church bag.

Kindergarten:Z-z Zebra

I LOVE "On Beyond Zebra". It is SOOO hilarious.

Fun pages for Put me in the Zoo. I used the sheet protector and these dry-erase crayons.

Lil Sis wanted a "movable" tail

And Lil Sis decided NOT to make a mural (how dull!) but a stand up safari. =)

Online Resources: Sesame Street Games

I love the Sesame Street Games ...I think they are the best for preschoolers. They teach important concepts, at the same time, making computer skills real easy. For eg, there is no "click and drag"...that's hard for them...there's "click" "move" "click". There are some games Ian really likes...(click on photo for the games) That's the Wheels on the Bus song (you press the keys foe interactive movements) Patterns. Seasons. Fun for the kids. Walking the dogs...numbers. This is alltime favorite. First you make a pitcher of lemonade. Then depending on how many monsters come, you click however many cups. I love it!
