MFW CtG/K Week 28: B-b Butterfly, Jonah-Hezekiah

4th/2nd Grade Creation to the Greeks

Isaiah 40:21-22

Do you not know? Do you not hear?
Has it not been told you from the beginning?
Have you not understood from the foundations of the earth?
It is he who sits above the circle of the earth,
and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers;
who stretches out the heavens like a curtain,
and spreads them like a tent to dwell in;

Bible/History

  • We read about Jonah, Isaiah and Hezekiah (The kids were confused by the jump around and I had to remind them the chronology...pull in English from the Roots Up!)
  • We also continued on Homer
  • And we learnt about the superpower during that time - the Assyrians.
  • We are quite behind on memorizing Isaiah. It is not an easy passage to remember. I am going to let the kids use fighter verse app to memorize it verse by verse.
  • The kids also started to get sick, so we kind of skipped some parts of school.

We used the accordion time line this year and it has worked out. Today we pulled it out and revised the timeline that we already put up.
Math/Science

Bubbles

Optical Illusion room (This is not the right perspective)

Hall of Mirrors

Defying gravity!

Science show
  • Day 5 of Creation (Swimmers and Flyers)
  • We learnt about the fins of fish. We did not do the experiment, but we saw a fish at Hall of Science the previous Friday and it's good to examine it.
  • The Hall of Science at NYC is free on Fridays 2-5pm from Sep to Jun. WONDERFUL for homeschoolers! It is quite empty and we had fun exploring.

Language

  • Rod and Staff
  • Spelling Power for Big Bro
  • Spelling by Sight and Structure for Big Sis
  • Cursive for Big Sis. She practices her cursive while doing her Rod and Staff work.

Foreign Language

We started åº·è»’一下!!

This is the hardest word so far, but we had a good learning about what "listening is all about"

Online Resources: Sesame Street Games

I love the Sesame Street Games ...I think they are the best for preschoolers. They teach important concepts, at the same time, making computer skills real easy. For eg, there is no "click and drag"...that's hard for them...there's "click" "move" "click". There are some games Ian really likes...(click on photo for the games) That's the Wheels on the Bus song (you press the keys foe interactive movements) Patterns. Seasons. Fun for the kids. Walking the dogs...numbers. This is alltime favorite. First you make a pitcher of lemonade. Then depending on how many monsters come, you click however many cups. I love it!

Science 2015/2016: Human Body Recap

We really had fun learning about the Human Body this year. I thought it would be meaningful to consolidate our learning. We enjoyed the Body Book more than I thought we would. I did do most of the cutting though. We also enjoyed the different videos we watched and the experiments. I think this is the most successful science year yet.
