Bible
We began the memorization of James! This week we did James 1:1-8.
We did good! Even Baby Sis was able to memorize some words!
I tried this for one of the verses just for fun. The kids enjoyed it.
This is the hymn we enjoyed these two weeks.
We REALLY enjoyed this rendition. The kids remarked that the people are so joyful.
History
We learnt about King James, Jamestown, and the first pioneers.
These were some of the books in the book basket. I saw Big Sis reading it. I have not always known if book basket (putting a bunch of living books in the basket related to the topic) worked, but I have seen many times the kids just picked up a book or two they would not have picked up at the library and read with much interest.
The older kids did notebook pages on King James and Jamestown.
I found some images of the 1611 KJV version of 1 Cor 13 online and gave them as a page.
Lil Sis enjoyed making the wigwam.
We started read aloud this week.
The younger girls love this book. Big Bro already read this upteen times. He said "Squanto? We are reading it? But it's such a sad story!" =)
Language
We started Spelling this week for the two older ones. They tested on Level H (Big Sis) and Level J (Big Bro). Lil Sis started Spelling by Sound and Structure from Week 1 and she is doing really well!
We continued with Mandarin Chinese.
Science
We did Lesson 6 on leaves. We went out on a leaf search and it was really fun!!

WHAT IS THIS?!?! Some kind of fungus I think. They are hard! They sure look like roasted marshmallows.
We saw a HUGE leaf and talked about how much transpiration will go on in this tree!

Then we pressed the leaves they got and put them in laminate. Then I asked them to describe the leaves.
Art
We are using Artistic Pursuits K-3 (Book 2) this year.
This week we learnt about Giotto (JAH-toh) and did some "scratch" art like he did when he was young.
First color the pastels.
Use oil pastel black to go over the whole picture.

Books we read for leisure
I don't remember how I stumbled on your blog, but I will be following you this year! We are long time MFW users, and will be starting Exp to 1850 September 6. My kids in the guide will be 4th, 6th, and 8th. :)
