B-Butterfly Plan

B-Butterfly is an amazing week!! We have so much to do I think we might do more than 6 days. We'll see.

Here are some of the things I gleaned from all the great ideas I've seen from the forum and the internet

Crafts
Grocery bag wings (use grocery bags to make butterfly wings)

tissue butterfly
caterpillar becomes butterfly craft
Paint a butterfly

Sun catcher (thanks to a gift from a friend)

Life Cycle
Nice photos here
Other info of the butterfly and here
Make cards and a poster
Activity (from the manual)
Pasta poster (got from the forum)
  -egg (rice)
  -caterpillar (rotini)
  -chrysalis (shell)
  -butterfly (bowtie)

Snacks
Flutter-By Franks (got this from the forum)

1 tube (8 oz) refrigerated crescent rolls
4 hot dogs (or turkey dogs, if you prefer)
Ketchup & mustard

Unroll crescent dough & separate into eight triangles; cut each triangle in half. Roll each piece into a ball; flatten to 1/2-inch thickness. For wings, place four dough balls in a square shape 2 inches apart on an ungreased baking sheet. Cut each hot dog length-wise 1/3 the length of the dog (makes the butterfly antennae). Press a hot dog between each set of wings.

Lunch idea: use sandwich, carrots etc to make butterfly

Online Resources: Sesame Street Games

I love the Sesame Street Games ...I think they are the best for preschoolers. They teach important concepts, at the same time, making computer skills real easy. For eg, there is no "click and drag"...that's hard for them...there's "click" "move" "click". There are some games Ian really likes...(click on photo for the games) That's the Wheels on the Bus song (you press the keys foe interactive movements) Patterns. Seasons. Fun for the kids. Walking the dogs...numbers. This is alltime favorite. First you make a pitcher of lemonade. Then depending on how many monsters come, you click however many cups. I love it!

We really had fun learning about the Human Body this year. I thought it would be meaningful to consolidate our learning. We enjoyed the Body Book more than I thought we would. I did do most of the cutting though. We also enjoyed the different videos we watched and the experiments. I think this is the most successful science year yet.
