Bible/History

  • OT books Memory work, Revised 2 Tim 3:16-17
  • Learnt all about the pyramids. It was real informational!
We built a lego pyramid. I made the two older ones work together. They got into some disagreements about whether or not to put the "king" in.

We learnt about how levers might have been used to help in the hard work of building pyramids.

The kids had a lot of fun looking at around and inside Pharaoh Khufu's Great Pyramid
.

We read more about pyramids in this book

We did the pyramid lapbook pages and this particular one by Big Bro sent me laughing to the ground.

And we celebrated Rosh Hashanah (Feast of the Trumpets) (early)
Math/Science

  • Light: How the Human Eye sees

Learnt about blind spots and how our eye works.

  • Light: Reflection, absorption, transmission

We did the experiment of seeing the reflection of the fork from the bottom of the bowl. (VERY neat!)

And we learnt how light may transmit or be absorbed or reflected

Big Sis working on her Singapore Math 2A, renaming!

Language

  • Big Bro continued to learn about sentences and work on diagramming sentences
  • Big Sis learnt about telling sentences, asking sentences and order in sentences.
  • Spelling Power for Big Bro
  • Spelling by Sight and Structure for Big Sis
  • We also learnt the Greek word "tele" and did our English from the Roots Up notebook page. We also revised the past words
  • We continued with the read-aloud Tanglewoods' Secret.
  • And we also continued to read "All-of-a-kind Family"

Foreign Language

  • Continued on åº·è»’首冊(revising the BoPoMoFo). The older two took turns doing the lesson online. We finished the BoPoMoFo and we will be doing revision before we get to the words! yay!
  • And we read about 嫦娥奔月 since it was Mooncake Festival

Art/Music

  • We drew King Tut's pyramid and also thick and thin lines
  • Also the kids listened to Vivaldi's Spring and drew pictures. I wished they would have colored their pictures! I think they did a great job!
I love how diligent they were! (even the littlest)

      Have you wondered?
      • How many pyramids are there in Egypt?? 80 (source from here)

      Kindergarten: L-l Leaf
      L-l cards

Sesame Street Podcasts are one of our favorites!

We read/watched Caps for Sale and did the lapbook

      And we designed a cap

      We went leaf picking!

And used them to do leaf rubbing.
"Texture" letter writing (Tempura paint in ziploc)

Identifying leaves using this worksheet and google

      Cuisenaire rods

      Math Page

We picked that "naughty" (according to my girls) leaf who did not want to stay on the tree.
Only one day has passed and it was in this state.
Eventually the leaf was quite dried up by Day 5.

      L Book

This is my girl's FAVORITE ipad app and for every unit I asked her to watch the corresponding ones. They teach kids to make cute, fun foods (according to the letters!) We got it for free, now it's $2.99

And we read books on leaf

      Homeschooling Ideas

Our schedule has changed this year. Maybe there were more things to be done, or I have more kids in school, so the morning is not enough for school now. So here's how our day usually looks like now

7:30am Breakfast with Daddy, Facetime with grannies

8:00am Pick up and start school
(Until the weather gets cold, we will still do 10:30am playground time)
      11:00am Lunch prep
      11:30am Lunch
12:00am Littlest(and Mommy) naptime, Quiet Time (self work) for older ones)
      2:00pm Clean up
      2:30pm Video time
3:00pm Science/Art/Readaloud (or whatever things that are not finished for school)
      3:30pm Play time!
      4:30pm Dinner prep
      5:00pm Bathtime for older kids
      5:45pm Daddy's Home! Dinner Time
      6:15-6:45pm Family Time
      7:00pm Bedtime

On a side note, we got our compliance letters for our IHIP, two students this year. Though I know I need no affirmation from anyone other than God that I can and should homeschool my children, I still do not take the freedom and right to homeschool for granted. I am grateful for smooth process with the authorities.

      Online Resources: Sesame Street Games

I love the Sesame Street Games ...I think they are the best for preschoolers. They teach important concepts, at the same time, making computer skills real easy. For eg, there is no "click and drag"...that's hard for them...there's "click" "move" "click". There are some games Ian really likes...(click on photo for the games) That's the Wheels on the Bus song (you press the keys foe interactive movements) Patterns. Seasons. Fun for the kids. Walking the dogs...numbers. This is alltime favorite. First you make a pitcher of lemonade. Then depending on how many monsters come, you click however many cups. I love it!

      Science 2015/2016: Human Body Recap

We really had fun learning about the Human Body this year. I thought it would be meaningful to consolidate our learning. We enjoyed the Body Book more than I thought we would. I did do most of the cutting though. We also enjoyed the different videos we watched and the experiments. I think this is the most successful science year yet.
