MFW 1850-Mod Week 4: David L/S, Garibaldi, Taiping Rebellion

Bible

We memorized Php 1:12-14 this week.

We do the notations together to memorize the verses.
This is for:
For everyone here, including the whole palace guard, knows that I am in chains because of Christ.

We learnt the song

The kids really enjoyed it.
This year I'm aligning the hymns to the Kindergarten unit. This is for S-s Sun.

History

We learnt about David Livingstone in Africa, the Italy Rebellion, and the Taiping Rebellion.

The older two are doing well on the outlines in the SOTW student sheets.

We were going to make pizza. Instead we had many opportunities to eat them outside! So we might have Ravioli the coming week instead for Italy.

We did a president Study on Franklin Pierce.

Science

We learnt the states of matter of water.

We learnt that pressure and salt quickens melting

Tried to do the fruit slush experiment which did not work for us.

We also laid out a dish to show evaporation.
This was Big Sis' page on Science this week.

We also did a really fun water experiment to show that when paper fibres soak in water they expand.

Language and Math

We started Spelling Power.

Lil Sis is in Group B and Big Sis in Group J.

Big Bro continued his writing practice for IEW and it is very interesting.

All the children also do Kumon practice as a supplement. This is for Baby Sis.

Read A-louds
We continued to read Farmer Boy.

Art
We are doing art in alignment with Kindergarten this year too. We did the Van Gogh Sunflowers this week. What I did was I asked them to look at the painting and choose how they want to replicate it.

Big Bro decided to paint in gray scale and then photoshop the color (which I don't have it now)

Online Resources: Sesame Street Games

I love the Sesame Street Games ...I think they are the best for preschoolers. They teach important concepts, at the same time, making computer skills real easy. For eg, there is no "click and drag"...that's hard for them...there's "click" "move" "click". There are some games Ian really likes...(click on photo for the games) That's the Wheels on the Bus song (you press the keys foe interactive movements) Patterns. Seasons. Fun for the kids. Walking the dogs...numbers. This is alltime favorite. First you make a pitcher of lemonade. Then depending on how many monsters come, you click however many cups. I love it!

Science 2015/2016: Human Body Recap

We really had fun learning about the Human Body this year. I thought it would be meaningful to consolidate our learning. We enjoyed the Body Book more than I thought we would. I did do most of the cutting though. We also enjoyed the different videos we watched and the experiments. I think this is the most successful science year yet.
