2020-2021 Rome to Reformation Week 25

This week we learnt about the Ottoman Turks, Spain, and Portugal.

It was a little confusing after the Black Death, nationalism, etc, why are we talking about the Ottoman Turks.

However, it's very helpful when we go back to the Timeline pages (we do it by accordion style)

That helps us to see where we are.

We did a lapbook component using the lantern patterns that Muslims use during Ramadan.

We also used this lapbook component for Ferdinand and Isabelle.

And when we studied about the explorers, we went to this page under "Exploration and Trade" to try the "Spice Trader game". It was fun.

For science, we did a lapbook component on the moon phases and also some things they remembered about the moon. By the way, this is my FAVORITE video on teaching the moon phases. She did it SO WELL. It was actually really fun because a few days before we saw the full moon. And since Chinese New Year is coming up in near to two weeks. I was able to explain to them the Lunar Calendar and how the first day of the month of the lunar calendar will have a new moon.

We did the famous Oreo activity. =)

For foreign language we practiced more words and this was what Baby Sis did for herself. =)

We also finished "Cricket of Times Square". LOVE LOVE LOVE this book.

For fun, Big Sis made AMAZING M&M treasure cookies on Saturday.

Online Resources: Sesame Street Games

I love the Sesame Street Games ...I think they are the best for preschoolers. They teach important concepts, at the same time, making computer skills real easy. For eg, there is no "click and drag"...that's hard for them...there's "click" "move" "click". There are some games Ian really likes...(click on photo for the games) That's the Wheels on the Bus song (you press the keys foe interactive movements) Patterns. Seasons. Fun for the kids. Walking the dogs...numbers. This is alltime favorite. First you make a pitcher of lemonade. Then depending on how many monsters come, you click however many cups. I love it!

I did do most of the cutting though. We also enjoyed the different videos we watched and the experiments. I think this is the most successful science year yet.
